I just finished an 8500 mile road trip. While on the trip my laptop took a nose dive. I ended up buying a new one with VISTA 64 bit. I was able to move all the 5400 photos from the digital camera to the computer in a folder created. When We got home I was able to burn all the photos onto a data DVD. When I put them into the desktop (VISTA 32 bit) they are not recognized. They will play in the Toshiba DVD player on top of the T.V. and they can be read on the laptop. I also have CyberLink POWER2GO 6.0 on the laptop (came with it). I contacted them and they said there might be a compatability issue. Even a disc burned with CyberLink cannot be read on another computer. I did check for the DAO setting and closed session options. I am at a loss...I am not a computer expert, but I can navigate my way better than the average bear. Cyberlink just answered that the problem is probably the DVD drive in the Desktop....Any thoughts???

Be sure the media type is supportted by both PCs (DVD-R or DVD+R). Also, be sure your desktop PC CD/DVD drive has the latest firmware updates.

one thing you might do as good a program defaults, and set the defaults for pictures" to ask me"

also if you go to Google and click on the more drop-down tab, and then go to even more to find the Picasa it is a great utility that will import your photos prompt you to name them anything you like, and the next time you put the memory card in or just with photos it will scan the card and automatically check the ones that are already in so that it doesn't create any duplicates
I think you really enjoy using that program

Also I thought it would say, then if you still have a hard drive that came with the other computer, and or the memory cards that you took the photos with you could
1. Put the hard drive in an external enclosure and let Picasa I find all the photos
2. Put the memory cards in the reader and let Picasa index all of those also

I used ROXIO CREATOR 2009. I don't understand what you mean by what format? I used DVD-R  disc's if that's what you mean.

Both PC's can handle the media (DVD-R) how do I update the firmware on the desktop? I don't know the manufacturer of the drive. It is an HP pavillion tower form Best buy, about 1 1/2 yr old If I rmember right.

Go to Device Manager (right mouse click on Computer and select properties) and look for your CD/DVD drive. Then click on the + sign. What is does it say?

Or launch Creator 2009 Home Application then then click on Get Disk Information. That will show your drive model.

Perhaps you should tell us what your PC specifications are:

What media manufacturer are you using?

Isn't that what Big_Dave just asked?
