Hello. Since updating to 2009, I notice that it takes 3 times as long to import a DVD, and also way longer to burn a DVD. My current write speed is 1MB/SEC or slower. My CPU usage is upwards to 60%, even when writing and it used to be less than 10%. I notice that Rtvscan.exe is using about 59,000K of my system memory and I don't know what the problem is. It seems like I had a similar issue with EMC10 but don't remember what the remedy was. Also, just watching a DVD on my computer is agony; the video and audio skip and pop and this was never like this befire I unstalled 2009. Thanks for any help you all can give. Did some reading and Rtvscan.exe is part of my virus scan. It is using some of my system memory but apparently not using any of the CPU. When I look at the processes running, it shows System Idol in the 90%'s yet it also shows 50-60% CPU usage but I don't know what is using it. Just typing this and it is jerky on the screen; i am buring a DVD that I coppied to my hard drive, write speed is extremely slow.
Try disconnecting your computer from the internet, and then totally stopping your Norton Internet Security Suite with Windows MSCONFIG - doing a Selective Startup and unchecking all the Norton/Symantec items. Then see if your DVD behavior changes.
This should either implicate or clear your security software in the problems you're having.

Turns out the Rtvscan is not bogging my system, it shows no CPU usage at all. I completely disabled it and same problem; an hour to import a DVD, an hour to burn each disc. I also use Nero (occasionally) and the import took an hour, the burn estimated wait time was 8 minutes (standard) but it took an hour as well. I don't understand why my task manager shows 90+% sustem idol and also 60%+/- CPu usage. This dod happen directly after installing Creator 2009. I am downloading an update from Nero to see if updating my software for the drive will solve this although I am not hopeful. Next, i wil uninstall 2009 and try EMC 10 again. I have done limited googling on this problem (98% idol and high CPU usage but have foind nothing solid. Thanks for helping, any new advice is greatly appreciated!
You can't have 90% system idle, and 60%+ system usage. The two figures should add up to 100%.
You haven't got yourself a rootkit virus infection where something the system is prevented from seeing is working hard undercover, have you? It might be worth getting a rootkit scanner from Sophos or one of the others offered on the 'net, just to exclude that possibility.

Do you think it might be a good idea to list your system specs???
An hour to import and an hour to burn could be blinding speed for some PCs.
Also need to know the length (time) of the import as well as the length of the burn.
Sorry to not list specs, didn't think about it. I am a fireman and havibg a busy day here at work. Normally, it takes about 12 minutes to imoprt a DVD using Copy or Copy & Convert, then another 8-10 minutes to burn it. It is taking an hour to imoprt, and an hour to burn a 50 minute standard def DVD. I am copying some DVD's with an external DVD and it is working at normal speed. Only my internal DVD is having the problem. Also, watching a DVD is impossible due to skipping; horrible audio.

I thought about this and thanks for the idea. The only thing is this; as soon as I am not using my DVD RW Drive, the CPU usage goes back to normal and the machine runs perfecty. Your thoughts???
Of course, your anti-virus is scannning everthing that you computer is reading from or burning to the burner. You could change that since you know that what you are reading and what you are burning is "safe".
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
