I would try it first by just doing it over the top of the old one…
If that doesn’t work, then proceed to the Clean Install.

1.Close the Creator 2009 icon from the bottom bar.
2.Right click on the Creator 2009 desktop icon
3.Click properties and open compatibility tab
4.If the box before "Run this program**etc**" has a tick in it then remove it
5.The greyed out selection should be windows 95
6.Close the properties and open Creator 2009 from the desktop icon
Letme know if it was successful

tried all the recomended cleaning & re installing still no go which is verry anoying considering I have only done a couple of slide shows so far.
My attempts to get a hard copy of my soft ware is proving impossible and refund out of date.
I see I am not the only one having issues!!!!!

Had the same identical problem and applying the solution I listed on this site cured the problem. Let me know if it helps.

The only way the compatibility mode would get set is if you went out of your way in the first place to set it for something other than XP or Vista...
It is set automatically and correctly during install.

Jim
Thank you for your observation as below:-
“The only way the compatibility mode would get set is if you went out of your way in the first place to set it for something other than XP or Vista...”
“It is set automatically and correctly during install.”
Having been working with Roxio through the ticket system for four weeks have un-installed, cleaned and re-installed five times including a modified clean they recommended, and I assure you during that time I did not change the desktop icon compatibility properties as set by the program.
Mentally I recollect after those clean/re-installs the presence of the icon properties compatibility tick, but being a novice concluded the program must have configured it correctly.
Not until my last clean/re-install did I redress the tick issue which was again present. I removed the tick and the program loaded correctly and has remained so for the past week.
In my case the only compatibility choices are listed below and my Windows XP was not shown. To reiterate the tick was present and Windows NT 4.0 was highlighted and removing the tick gave me an operable program.
Windows 95
Windows 98/Windows Me
Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)
Windows 2000

With that much tinkering going on, I do not doubt that it got set somewhere…
With a normal install there will be no compatibility mode checked nor is one needed…
Here is what a normal install looks like – works in XP, Vista & Win7:

And that works just fine on 3 of my PC's.

I have just gone through a clean and redownload and this compatibility issue with vista still remains .Is there anyway i can get a hard copy as it seams to be some issue caused during down loading .
Cheers.

Again thank you for your comment and I concurr.
To fill in some of my history from my initial purchase and istallation.
The program at first loaded well and opened satisfactorily but creating a still picture DVD was problematic and I concluded I had fouled up somewhere.
After about two weeks the program would not open from the desktop Icon. From the reporting in these forums that sounds familiar doesn't it.
That led me to go the ticket route but it gave me no help and roxio refused to give me further technical help. Abandonment focuses the attention which led me to the "tick removal" solution.
We both agree the program should configure the desktop icon correctly but I know it changed and caused my problem. One can only conclude that there must be conflict between the program and operating system. In the problem period there have been automatic software update downloads.
Even now I do not have milcore.dll (discussed in the forums) on my system but I dont know if it is relevant. Can you advise me and if so, and how to download and install it from MS step by step?

Cheers.
There is NO compatibility issue… You said your install ran OK for weeks.
You are having a problem and you are focusing on One thing. And it happens to be the thing that has nothing to do with it…
If you like, I will get your posts moved into a separate Topic so it receives undivided attention???
If you want to do that, just let me know, here or send me an IM. I think we can get you running again. - Oh, probably too late to get discs... You should always burn a backup whenever you download a program! What if someone steals the Internet some night
