I would like to convert a chapter of a dvd and into a file that I can upload to youtube.
Somewhere on here, or elsewhere, is there a tutorial on how to do this?
The tutorial will have to be pretty basic for me to understand it. smile.gif
Thanks.

I don't know about a tutorial. You need to use the Toast Media Browser to extract the chapter from the DVD and then use the convert window to convert it to the format you want. Choose DVD with the Top button of the Media Browser. Use the button that's just below that to access the chapter level of the DVD's title you want. Then drag the chapter to the main Toast window to extract it.

You gave me a good tutorial. I got pretty far along, used the sliders to crop out what I didn't want, but then could not find any Save option  other than as .disc. How do I save in a format, such as mpeg, that can be uploaded to youtube? Thanks.

Be sure you're in the Convert window. If you are using Toast's edit tool you don't need to do any special saving before choosing export. Just mark the portion you want to be included and close the editor. You should see that Toast now describes the video as being shorter than it was before the edits. Then click the red button and save in the format you want such as MPEG 4 (my recommendation for YouTube).

Sorry not to be getting this. I start out in the window with the icon (the middle one) showing the movie blackboard with the clapper on top. Is that right? (Or do I start out in the Convert window?) Then I extract what I want and it appears in the window. I do not seem to know how to get from this point to Convert. If I click on the Convert icon at this point, it does me no good. I just get a reference to the entire dvd, with an Options button. Nor do I see an Export option in the Convert window. Thanks for help.

Start with the Convert window. Choose Video Files as the format. Insert your source DVD (or place a VIDEO_TS folder that's on your hard drive on the desktop). Choose DVD with the top button of the Media Browser. This is a separate window from the main Toast window. If you don't see the Media Browser choose Show Media Browser from the Windows menu.

You should now see some text in the browser window. Use the button that's just below "DVD" to access individual titles on the DVD. The media browser can show you a list of the DVD's different titles, and when a title is selected with that button I mentioned you'll see a list of the individual chapters within a title. When you find the chapter(s) you want drag it (them) to the Convert window. You'll see Toast take a few seconds to copy the video.

When you have the chapters you want copied to the Convert window click the Red button. There you'll see a window with a list of export options.

That worked. (I was not first clicking on Video Files.) You *are* the digital guru! Many thanks.
