Being an IT engineer of many years standing and having come across many software applications and items of hardware that simply do not work, I was not surprised to find that yet again we have another USB device and attending software which does not function as expected.
I thought it would be a simple task to setup a fairly high end PC and attach Easy VHS to DVD to capture and convert some old VHS tapes to DVD.
I installed the software and USB device and it worked well when connected directly to my Sony HandyCam and the results were Ok.
However, when connected to a selection of good quality VCR's the software refuses to to acknowledge the VCR's existence despite trying all ports (SCART/composite or S-VHS).
Come on Roxio - there are far too many issues with the software which is bourne out by the abundance of threads which relate to "no signal" and the frustration of users who simply cannot get your product to work is patently obvious.
In my case the camcorder success proves nothing and that the software does not function every time.
I'm now going to ditch Easy and try another capture device with the hope that it MUST be better than Roxio.
Not Impressed!

Hi Bushsubaru -
I'm sorry you are having a frustrating experience with our software. However, I didn't see any of the trouble shooting steps you attempted in your thread. Any errors you received would also be helpful.
Please let me know if you attempted any of the articles listed in this post..
Also, what kind of VHS tapes were you trying to capture? Commercial? Personal?
Finally, did you submit a support ticket to help resolve your issue?
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,
I have pondered over most of the threads to see if I have missed something obvious and tried a variery of fixes. A few of my IT collegues just gave up having similarly gone through the forum for guidance.
My main problem with the product is that it is so unpredictable and unforgiving and very difficult to re-install once the first installation has been corrupted. Most domestic VCR's are not high quality and the tapes may have been well used and the quality quite low.
It is this issue which, I believe, frustrates users of your product and they expect that the software will capture without significant error albeit of low final quality. The product is aimed at the domestic market and users tend not to have a great deal of experience in IT.
Sorry Roxio - I have now consigned your product to the bottom drawer.

Hi Bushsubaru -
After helping customers with Sonic and Roxio software for years, once thing I have learned is that IT and even some programmers are awesome for computers, but not as good when it comes to video and its resource needs because it's a pretty different skill set - even if it is on a computer.
However, I'm still not understanding what the exact problem is or what errors you are receiving. Even though myself - or the Guru's on this forum - want to help you out, we just don't have enough technical info to resolve your issue (computer specs, behavior, etc).
Yes, I understand you've pretty much given up the ghost on this one, but just wanted to let you know if you decide to provide more specific information, we're here to help and happy to do it.
Take care,
Jon

Ridiculous!
It worked, by your own admission, until you tried the VCR…
Your SCART is the most likely suspect, take it to an electronics store, tell them what you are doing and they will show you to the right one!

I tend to agree with Jim's line of thinking.
From the limited info provided, it worked when you had the camera connected to it but not when you connected the VCR equipment. that points to the connection between the VCR and the USB device as to where the issue is, not the software.
