Video Copy & Convert
I have been taking some video shot to DVD in PAL (576i) which is a screen resolution of 720x576i
I've been playing with the conversion options to move it to wmv or mp2 format and in the options it seems the defaults are distorting the resolution, it certainly doesn't look right on a 16:9 TV.
Defaults:
Set Framerate: Pal 25fps
Output resolution: Default
Screen Adaptation: Letterbox
When I look for resolution settings there are no resolutions for PAL or NTSC both of which are 720xabc There are the standard small devices and pc resolutions and then it jumps to 720PHD and 1080iHD.
What I want to accomplish is an output in WMV or MP2 or even AVI that maintains the same aspect ratio as it was shot.
Can someone explain what "default" is for the resolution, the help guide doesn't say anything?
I have played with both with varying results, the biggest positive result was turning screen adaptation to NONE. Should I be doing this? I noted the footage looked relatively normal then on a 16:9 display monitor.
Any assistance demystifying this would be appreciated...
As I mentioned, I want WYSWYG, PAL shot 720x576 and PAL converted output that maintains 720x576
Many thanks in advance!

I would suggest you use Videowave (Edit Video - Advanced) rather than Video copy & convert.
Simply add your source video to the project, the use Output As to output it to a file. you'll find a lot more options and pre-sets in Videowave for output formats than in VCC.
