I am updating from 8.0.1 to 8.0.5. Installation fails with "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." My user account has adminitrator privileges. I am new to the Mac world.

Either drag the original install of Toast 8 to the trash before dragging in the new one from the download, or rename the older folder so you'll end up with both of them on your Mac (until you choose to trash the older one).
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks for you suggestions. I'm not at the Mac tonight, but will be there tomorrow and will try your suggestion. Can you explain why the Mac doesn't handle the trashing of the older installation automatically? The OS asked me if I want to replace the prior install and I said yes.

Macs do allow applications to be replaced by simply dragging in the new version to replace the old one. However, there seems to be some problem doing that with some of Roxio's applications (and it doesn't happen to everyone so I don't know the cause). My workaround eliminates this unusual problem but adds a step.

I've seen this happen with another app when it was installed by a non-admin user by providing an admin id & password. The app gets installed, but is owned by the non-admin user. If you then try to manipulate it from the admin account, you can't because the app is owned by the non-admin user.
I just became root and removed the .app.
