I am selecting software for creating photo slide show to vies on my computer or TV. I use Vista.
I have the following questions about Roxio Creator slide show features.

1. Can it play movie clips which are part of the slide show?
2. Can I change the time of display for each photo?
3. Can I change the associated sound files for different groups of photos in the same slide show?
4. Can I use captions which display under the images (noy inside the image)?
5. Can I assign my preferred font size to the captions? Can I do this in one command for a group of images?
6. Can file names be used as captions?
7. Can I use the star rating (those recorded under Properties > Details) to select photos a given star rating?
8. Does it have face recognition whereby the photos for a face I select are displayed so I can easily tag them?
9. Are there video tutorials addressing my above questions? Where are they (Icould not find them)?

Thank you, CarlosWA

Some of your questions are unclear as to what you are really asking but here are some answers..

1. don't understand what you mean
2. yes, you can adjust the display duration for each slide
3. you can add audio to any series of slides
4. you cannot add captions under the image directly. It can be done with a workaround which involves shrinking the image and overlays.
5. You can use any of the available fonts.
6. You can add any text manually.
7. No idea what you are talking about
8. No
9. Yes, look under Products

In 1, if you are asking if you can make a slide show that includes videos, then the answer is yes.  I'm not sure what the editor is called in 2010 but in Creator 2009 it was called Edit Video-Advanced aka Video Wave.

Video Wave will not automatically sort your files; you will have to select them.  I you can sort them in a folder using Windows then the selection becomes easy.  Video Wave will not automatically pick up the image name.

If you are looking for a slide show application only, also look at PhotoShow.  It is very limited in how much video you can add.  PhotoShow will also import directly from Facebook, Flickr, and Shutterfly
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thank you for your answers. I have clarifed the questions you didi not understand and asked for clarification on a few of your answers.

1. don't understand what you mean
1. Can Creator play video clips (taken with a camera) and photos in the same slide show?

4. Can I use captions which display under the images (not inside the image)?
4. you cannot add captions under the image directly. It can be done with a workaround which involves shrinking the image and overlays.
4. I did a search on Overlays and received no hits for Creator. Could you please post a link to the documentation for this task? Can the overlays be made for several images in one operation or do I need to do them separately for each image.?

5. Can I assign my preferred font size to the captions? Can I do this in one command for a group of images?
5. You can use any of the available fonts.  CW Unclear answer.
5. Is this Yes? Can I set up as a default any font I want?

7. Can I use the star rating (those recorded under Properties > Details) to select photos a given star rating?
7. No idea what you are talking about
7. I am referring to files metadata displayed by Windows. The metadata includes a rating data field where a rating can be assigned from 1 to 5 stars to images. This rating is read by some images processing software and can used as another parameter to select photos. You see the metadata by left clicking on a photo image file > Properties > Details.

9. Are there video tutorials addressing my above questions? Where are they (I could not find them)?
9. Yes, look under Products
9. I see no link to tutorials here http://www.roxio.com/enc/store/photo.html. I have searxhed the site and not found the video tutorials. Kindly provide more detail.

1. You can add video and still images to create a movie slideshow
4. I don't know of any documentation link. No idea what you are trying to do in the 2nd part of your question.
5. You can use any of the fonts available in Windows, what is unclear about that? I have no idea if you can set defaults.
7. I no nothing about using the start rating - I see no real practical use for it creating a slideshow.
9. Tutorials are found under Products/Video at the top of this forum.

For your convenience, the direct link for the tutorials is

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/.../tutorials.html

You might also look at Karri's excellent tutorials. Karri is one of the gurus on this forum.

http://www.emctips.com/videowave.html

Although written for earlier versions, they are generally also applicable to Creator 2010as the basic functionalities have not changed much.
