Computer shuts down while encoding video - no warning or error messages

Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz, 6.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce G100
Program works fine, but when I encode a finished video compilation project (this one is 4 minutes long, and includes clips of about 6 different mpg video files with music and a few dissolve transitions), part of the way through with no warning, the entire computer just shuts down like the plug was pulled. No blue screen, no recovery dialog from Vista when I restart about the cause of the crash...
It's happened while encoding the project to an ISO file (dvd with no menus) and before that while encoding to MPEG-2 dvd (best) quality video file.
the system is plenty fast to handle the encoding, isn't it? I didn't turn off my firewall, Panda anti-virus, or disable my FIOS internet connection... do i need to do that?
The only thing that's different since this problem appeared was that i just re-installed Px engine 3 to solve a disc drive issue (which fixed the problem)... is that related to the shutdowns?
i'm pretty sure my video drivers are up to date... what else would be effecting this situation? Almost seems like the system is unstable, and it's too new and expensive for me to entertain that possibility (yet)!!
thanks...

Other than that, it could be anything from video drivers to overheating to a power supply problem which are all doubtful since the system is so new.
Let us know what happens after the system restore.

Does it always shut down at the same point? If yes there could be some problem with a video clip. You could also try adding one clip at a time to see at what point it fails.
I would work in Videowave to first see if the problem is video related by outputting to a mpeg2 file (best quality)

You need to look at Event Viewer for a cause and use Asus Probe to monitor temps watching them while encoding. My guess a heat or power supply problem..

System Restore wasn't ever enabled, as it turns out... so that option is not possible. I could always install the PXEngine 4... but i read that it is known to cause problems (and i'm ELATED that my drive recognizes and burns blank CDs now!) so i'm hesitant to mess with that.
i also did run CCleaner this afternoon thinking that some leftover registry values from uninstalling Nero when I first bought the computer could be messing up my drive. So, truthfully, i don't know if the PXEngine fixed the cd drive problem or if the CCleaner did it...
But otherwise, the computer and Creator are working just fine in every other way... any other thoughts or suggestions?

Looking at Event Viewer in Vista, it's showing AlbumCore10 with the details "Service Stopped" before the crash. What part of Roxio is AlbumCore 10?

Issues with the computer shutting down, are usually a bad PSU, overheated CPU, or bad RAM problem.
Oops. Did not see Paul's post, before I submitted my post. Try what he suggested, first.

There are a few ways to get to it. On the Home page, click on Video-Movies icon, then click on Browse and Manage Media, under Enjoy.
Under Tools, click on Stop Monitoring Folders.

Under Tools, click on Stop Monitoring Folders.
okay - don't think it's a Media Manager issue since that's not currently monitoring any folders (the only option available under tools right now is START monitoring folders).
I'm looking at my Reliability and Performance Monitors for the system and find (2) miscellaneous failures for yesterday, when the system had it's sudden shutdowns. Nothing listed under hardware failures, so if it was a heat or CPU issue, wouldn't they show there?
There are no Windows Failures listed either, but in Application failures there are also (2) listings - consistent with both the sudden shutdowns... something called ApVxdWin.exe. Failure type - stopped working. Sooo... what is that application and what could i do about it?
again - thanks to all who are taking time to read this, consider possible helps, and post things for me!

and i just googled it and see it's part of Panda... i'll try encoding the video again with Panda turned off and see if that works...

disabling Panda seemed to work... i was able to encode the project to an ISO file as a dvd with no menus without any problems or shutdowns. however, it encoded at about half-speed of the realtime length of the project, whereas before it was encoding slightly FASTER than realtime. why might that be?
and upon watching the video, i see that all my initial problems are back (which is why i was trying to encode the project various ways, which is when the shutdowns began happening in the first place).
The transistions (literally, like, 6 dissolves) don't show up in the project at all, though they are in place in the VideoWave file. Also, the music track fade out is messed up, and the second song I have (on the SFX track) is coming in late and then gets cut off cold when the video ends.
any ideas where the glitches are coming from? and by the way, i did burn a video project on this system weeks ago without any incidents or messed up transitions...

Of course the audio will be cut off when the video ends - you can't have any audio without video.
What are the timings of your transitions? Have you tried to redo the project now that Panda is disabled?

should have specified - the audio from the two tracks crossfades and times out to end just before the video does. the error is that the second audio piece is starting late (not in the VideoWave project, just the resulting dvd) and then cuts off with the video.
the transitions are just dissolves - from solid color to start, then between clips. I've never had a problem with transitions needing some long amount of video on either side to work. Is it a compatibility issue with Vista 64 bit?
when you say 'redo the project' you mean start from scratch? i'd love to not have to do that if possible... even for a short project, it would take some time...
