Where do I begin. I have already imported or know how to import my 164 JPGs. I've tried to create the slideshow which I think I can accomplish, but I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling that when I load it to my DVD player/TV that I will be able to control the flow of the slideshow - except to set the interval to 10 seconds for each slide. I want to control the flow of the presentation (Like Powerpoint), but use DVD/TV instead.

The only way to control the "flow" of a slideshow (really a movie) is to use the pause on your remote control.
To create the slideshow you use Videowave to assemble the show including the images, audio, transitions etc. You can set the duration of each image separately or all at once.
You then use myDVD to author the DVD: create the menu and burn
Here is a workflow that should be helpful. Read through the "Usability forum" even for other program version is a good idea.

As noted by myguggi, all pictures are converted to dvd video file format when making a DVD disc. Thats because the disc has to meet pre-defined standards for a Video DVD that a set top player can play. So for slideshows, the best advice is to follow the suggestions he posted.
If you insist on wanted a slideshow where you manually change the picture displayed (like an old slide projector), there is one way you can do that. Keep in mind it will be very limited in what can be done.
You would use the Slideshow Assistant (can be started from in MyDVD by selecting the "Add Slideshow" menu task), select your pictures and select a transition type of "DVD Projector". As noted in the app, keep in mind that you will not be able to use any music, effects, text, etc in the slideshow. Also, which is not noted on the screen, is that you will be limited to 99 pictures per "slideshow" when doing this. So to get your 164 pictures on a disc, you will have to create at least 2 slideshow titles for you DVD project that you would "play" one at a time from the menu. There is no way around that. It is because in order to make the video slideshow act like a manual projector, each picture is marked as a chapter in the video file with an extremely long display time so that when you use the next/previous chapter buttons on your players remote, it acts like a slideshow projector. Because of this, that is why you are limited to only 99 pictures per title (movie, slideshow, whatever you care to call them) on the DVD in order to meet the DVD standards which only allow 99 chapters per title on a Video DVD disc.

Well so far I was able to get some nice sounding classical music on the Title Page...as Jim_Hardin replied with a screen dump of options for Video-Movies creation, I do not have a link to Create DVDs - Advanced...but I do have Create DVDs and it takes me to MyDVD..just need to figure out how to get the photos to the DVD instead of just the music on the front page of the slideshow.

I don't know which screen dump you are referring to but Creator 2010 does not have a Create DVDs - Advanced it only has Create DVDs which is actually myDVD. I think that screen dump may have been from Creator 2009 which still had a Create DVDs - Advanced.
You will have to explain what you mean by this statement "just need to figure out how to get the photos to the DVD instead of just the music on the front page of the slideshow"
