OEM Roxio 9 won't burn CD audio files or DVD data files

New to this forum. We started out with Roxio 9, now using 10.2 and most of our PCs about 150 of them all use the same burning software - Roxio 9. It will not burn audio CDs or copy DVDs. It does appear to work with burning normal data files to CD-Rs. We are using Dell Precision, Optiplex, and Latitude notebooks. We don't think its a Windows driver or hardware issue because the free BurnAware program burn files to DVD just fine. I didn't pay for the copy feature to test.
Roxio has sent us numerous things to try all - upper and lower filter registery settings, deleting a registry key starts with 4D36, uninstalling with Microsoft uninstaller, disable all startup and services, update drive firmware, install pxengine, suggested going to 2010 Creator which we don't want to spend the $$, would rather have the ones we originally purchased to work . Wondering if anyone else is having the same issues.
Thanks

2. If you could elaborate on "Roxio won't burn CD audio files or DVD data files" i.e. provide more details.

Whenever I try to burn anything to DVD - files or do a copy disc, or whenever I try to burn audio files to CDs, Roxio goes thru the steps - acts likes it burning (the light on the drive never comes on) and then it ejects the disc within a few seconds and says its finished. there is nothing on the drive, and there are no burn marks on the disc itself. I use the free burn aware program to copy the same files, the drive lights up, takes an appropriate amount of time and actually writes files to disc. I have tried all of the things support has told me (that I mentioned in the original post) to no avail.
This is happening on all of our computers that use Roxio, whether it be precision, optiplex or latitude notebooks.

Try this religiously. If that does not help, contact Dell as Jim recommended.

It is extremely limited but will make a data disc and will copy (disc to disc).
Also all support for that version comes from Dell. Talk to them about it.
They said they don't support the product to that extent since other programs burn just fine. They gave me the # to call Roxio directly.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried all of the suggestions in that link per Roxio support. Dell referred me to Roxio since the drive works fine with other programs.

What is the make/model/firmware of the drive? What brand of CD/DVD have you used so far? Have you updated "Px Engine"?

Sometimes you have to tickle the program with the PXEngine fix.
You have the 4 engine in there, try forcing the updater on it PXEngine 4
If that doesnt work, often the earlier version will PXEngine 3

Yes - I've updated the PX Engine twice, I've tried pxengine4_18_16a.exe before per Roxio support, just ran the pxengine3_00_58a.exe - testing it now...... still doesn't work
HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H53N Driver version 5.1.2535.0 This is what the Dell Precisions came with when we ordered them.
Dell said that I have the newest firmware for the drive.

not exactly sure but I tried to download this file from Dell which is the latest firmware for the drive - R143730.EXE and it wouldn't run so I went back to dell support and they said if it doesn't run I must have the latest version. I'll try to find out what brand is in the latitudes and the optiplex 755's. Didn't think this was an issue because it works just fine with BurnAware - just not with Roxio.
755 Optiplex uses TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H - Driver version 5.1.2535.0 - Updated the firmware using - R227331.exe from Dell.
It didn't help.

All of those suggested "fixes" are for a full Retail Version, not the cut-down OEM [Orignal Equipment Mfgr] Version from Dell.
Was the Roxio 9 Version you WERE using a cut-down OEM Version, or a full Version?
In the link Jim Hardin posted (http://forums.suppor...showtopic=48364) were you using the applications indicated (JukeBox for Audio CD, DataDisc for data disc)?
If you have DVD-capable burners, were those the ones originally in the computer specs, or an upgrade? I have a WinXP with a CD-RW, and the OEM I have on it wouldn't know a DVD blank from a piece of paper, even if I put the DVD burner in - because that capacity of the OEM burning program has been either disabled or deleted.
I'm just not sure everyone is talking about the same program. It's possible the PXengine update will do it - but the problem that solves is a missing drive, and if I understand correctly, the 10.2 DE Version is seeing the drive.

Roxio 9 is an OEM version. 10.2 was sent to us by Dell - also an OEM version I believe.
not sure on the applications - I click on the Roxio Creator Premier Home icon and to to Copy and have tried the Copy Disc/Create Image/Burn image.
DVD capable burner - I think these are standard but I'm not sure. BurnAware works fine burning to DVDs.
Yes the 10.2 DE Version is seeing the drive.

OK, the burner is capable of burning DVDs. Is the SOFTWARE capable of burning DVDs, that's the question. V. 10.2 is a Dell OEM, only they would know what they knocked out. But if the software can't burn DVDs, then it won't burn DVDs, and there isn't a cure for that.
As to Audio CDs, that is a different subject than Data CDs, and it is possible the OEM Version won't do it, or that it does it via a different path than you tried to do it with.
What I'm suggesting, is that it is actually possible that it won't burn Audio CDs or Data DVDs because it doesn't have those capabilities. Before giving all the 'quick fixes' for the Full Version, I think it needs to be established that the cut-down Version has that ability.
BTW - the DellTalk Forums are here

and some of their regulars may have some answers - they are more likely to have the specific Version you have.

Is it possible there is a toggle somewhere to specifiy DVD or CD? I remember an older program having seperate options?

With 150 computers using this program you must have a Volume License from Dell (All support for OEM's comes from the supplier of the software) I would think that you would get some sort of preferential treatment form Dell.
If it was me, I would be all over their support like a centipede with clogs on.

You'd think that but since they say it burns fine from other programs, than it must be internally to Roxio and they don't support to that extent since they didn't develop the software.
We're looking at programs loaded after what originally came from Dell Factory. Thats why we don't think its necessarily Roxio issue but incompatibility with Roxio, which initself is a Roxio issue.
Thanks for all the posts!
