Hi guys,
I'm new to the board. I just bought this product today and I've been having a little trouble.
*phew!*
I will TRY to go slow and explain everything as best I can.

A few days ago, I decided I wanted to import some of my VHS to my computer. I happened to have this old software in my closet that I used on my previous computer. It's called Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder. It turns out, however, this software is only compatible with Windows XP (which my previous computer had), and so, in the end, it didn't install on my current computer correctly. This computer runs on Windows Vista. Now, every time I log on my computer, a little box pops up saying "Pinnacle has detected an error in one of your drivers, would you like to correct now?" When I click on "Yes," it just says "Unable to fix, contact your system administrator."

OKAY... that's ONE thing that happened. Onto the next thing thing.

I was ALSO having problems getting my computer to recognize my DVDs the other day.
I would put a DVD in and none of the DVD players - RealPlayer, Windows Media, or PowerDVD DX - was able to read the DVD. It was as if there was no DVD in the drive at all. I tried different DVDs... my computer couldn't read any of them. It was as if the drive was empty.

I looked around on the internet to see if other people had this problem. I would run across posts on various forums that suggested a driver error. smile.gif I happened to find a solution to the DVD playing problem on Yahoo Answers, of all places!

This is what the answerer said WORD FOR WORD:

****************************************************

"Heres the fix. I'm a tech for a job. I'm sure it'll work. I help people with this exact problem all the time.

FIRST: click start.

go to: RUN

in run type REGEDIT.

This will open the registry editor.

click the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Then click the + sign next to SYSTEM

Then click the + sign next to CURRENTCONTROLSET

Then click the + Sign next to CONTROL

Then click the + sign next CLASS

NOW we're done clicking on + signs.

NEXT STEP click on the FOLDER labeled

4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

now there should be more options on the right hand side of the this window.

Look for anything Labeled UPPER FILTERS or LOWER FILTERS if any or both are present right click them. choose DELETE.

Now reboot the machine.

TA DA. your Drives are now listed again!!

I know it sounds scary but I know what I'm doing & it'll bring youre drives back.

Windows reloads the defaults on the restart
bad burning filters will make drives invisible to Windows."

*************************************************************

I followed the man's above instructions TO THE LETTER and... wa-la! My DVDs were (and are!) playing again. I can pop in a DVD and my default media player recognizes it immediately.

So okay......Cut to TODAY.

Today, I purchased Roxio Easy VHS to DVD.

I follow the instructions to the letter. I inserted the DVD, entered the serial number, and away I went. Initially, during installation process, it was stuck on the phrase, "Installing Directx 9.... something or other." smile.gif It would not move past that part of it.
So I came to this forum, looking for the answer. I stumbled across the following topic:
http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...amp;hl=usb+2861

I was having the same problem as "rgmkge." In addition to the installation bar refusing to move past that Installing Directx 9" message.... a Windows message would pop up saying, " "unable to install, could not find driver software."

So I took Larry the Digital Guru's advice on that thread, and installed the Roxio driver he had listed at that link.

That seemed to solve the installation problem. I installed that driver, rebooted, and re-tried installation with success. Right now, Roxio Easy VHS to DVD is installed on my computer just fine.

NOW I'm coming across the same problem as the starter of this thread. I do not have the "USB 2861" option in the Capture Device drop down box. The only two options listed are: "Integrated Webcam," and "Roxio Video Capture USB" (that thing Larry suggested for download in that other thread).

I tried "Grandpabruce"s suggestion of looking at my Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and this is my list:

Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2934
Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2935
Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2936
Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2937
Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2938
Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2939
Intel® ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293A
Intel® ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293C
Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
USB Composite Device
USB Composite Device
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

So what do you guys think the problem is? What do I need to do to get the USB 2861 in my capture device drop box so I can get to work and start capturing video?

Thanks so much,
Shyla

Actually I figured it out later that night. laugh.gif
I just had the video cord hooked up wrong. As soon as I unplugged it from the wrong thing and put it into the CORRECT thing I got a picture.
My bad.
