Hi! Whenever I'm using the Disc Copier to convert an AVI file to a DVD Video Disc. I get the following errors:

The write speed selected is invalid for the target device. (0x20000010)
ULONG: Error Number=20000010
STRING: Error String=The write speed selected is invalid for the target device.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Here are my computer specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2.08 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
256MB AGP Video Card(PNY)
Asus Motherboard
Pioneer DVD Burner

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

What happens after you get that error displayed? Does the operation carry on or does it stop?
Are you trying to convert and burn direct to disc?

The error is coming from the Dragon Burning Engine. Is there a way you can 'burn' to a disc image instead of to a blank disc?

I will be reinstalling EMC 8 shortly so I can have a look at this. Which operating system are you running please, and what is the model number of your burner?
P4 @3.20GHz on Albatron PX-865PE Pro II with 2GB DDR-SDRAM, FX5900XT video, Viewsonic monitors,
BENQ DW1640, in XP Pro and Windows 7

I blame it all on Global Warming / Global Cooling / Global Staying the Same [pick one]

Thanks for your answer. The process stops after I get the error message and the disc is unsable. I'm trying to convert and burn direct to disc. How do you burn to a disc image?
I am running Windows XP SP2. The model number of my burner is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-118L. I also tried burning at a slower speed but I still get the same error message. I re-installed Roxio but error message still pops up. I tried checking the Pioneer website for firmware updates but there are none. I just bought the burner a month ago. I appreciate your help on this.

Hello, I'm back and running EMC 8.

To save to an image rather than burning a disc, firstly select the Destination Disc/Disc Image, and click Burn

Now, in the Burn Setup dialog, uncheck your disc drive(s) and check 'Save disc image file'. Click Browse.

Select a name for the file, place to save it, and the type of image you want, and click Save.

This will save your converted AVI to a file if the conversion works properly. I usually choose ISO since that's a standard format.

Please be aware that AVIs are very compressed video, and will expand greatly during this conversion. My 32 MB AVI made a 286 MB ISO image, and took at least twice the running time to convert.

Doing it this way separates the recoding/conversion process from the burning process and helps troubleshooting. It also saves wasting discs while the problem persists. You can convert AVIs one at a time without wastage, if you suspect a damaged AVI or one you don't have a Codec for might be causing this problem.

Can you convert an AVI to a disc image without this error?

Thanks I was able to convert it with no error. However, it only plays on my computer & not on my dvd player or any other dvd player. I used disc copier to burn it to dvd. do you think i did something wrong? is roxio 7 better than 8? i used that before with no problems. The only thing i dont like about it is that it does not have dual layer support. Thanks in advance.
