Is that Roxio Creator 2010 or Easy Media Creator 10? Easy VHS to DVD is redundant to those programs and will conflict with Creator 2009. I think it is OK with Creator 2010 but still redundant.
Have you tried installing DirectX 9c directly from Microsoft and then installing one of the programs?

If it installs fine then that component should skip during installation of EMC.
Try this article. It might help

There's no folder on your install disc called DirectX_Nov07?
Try getting it here

Regardless, try the DirectX download from Microsoft and let me know if that doesn't solve your installation issues.

mtb, you sent me a private message saying that you DO have Creator 10. Where did you get it, and when did you get it?
Edit: mtb does have Creator 2010.

I got it directly from Roxio as a download, with a backup cd (I paid extra for that)

You will see a folder called "DIRECTX_NOV07".
From there run dxsetup.exe. Once that passes then you should run the installation of Roxio 2010 and it should skip the installation for DirectX.

Then you need to call tech support, a installation issue should be no charge, even if at first it says it will.
