I see and have read all of the various threads on Sony camcorders, but I have a little bit different problem.

I have a Sony DCR-DVD650. It is a Mini DV camcorder, but doesn't have the option to record directly to a build in drive.

First I thought that I could import directly into the software provided by Sony and then transfer it over to Roxio Creator 2009. The Sony software wouldn't allow me to transfer the files over to Roxio.

Then I tried importing the content on the camcorder directly into Creator 2009. I was suprised when it didn't accept it that way either.

I've been using Roxio products for a couple of years now editing the video of others, but this is actually the first camcorder that I've owned. I recorded training sessions that I planned to copy, edit, and burn from Creator 2009. I got so busy trying to figure out  a way to transfer from camcorder to a useable format for Roxio that I didn't try to play the mini Dvds on my laptop.

Hopefully, inserting and copying from the mini dvds will work.

However, if not, will I need a firewire cable ? How should I proceed from here ?

thanks

You don't need the firewire. You can either copy the video files from the mini DVD (preferred method) or capture using the analog jacks (audio/video).

This camera has a USB port so you should be able to connect it to your PC and copy over the Video_TS folder (or the video) using Windows Explorer. You should then be able to add the video to your Videowave program. Of course if Sony has decided to use some non-standard video/DVD format you might have some more problems.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it !

Hopefully, this thread will help others, as well.

It's apparently a hot selling item right now. According to the lady in electronics at Wal-Mart. They had sold out of their allotment. Then they reordered. They got some in the night before I bought mine and several people had already asked about it before I bought mine.

It was relatively inexpensive and seems like a pretty good entry level camcorder so FAR !

thanks again !!
