EMC 10 running on Vista Home Premium SP 2. I was getting very slow bootup- the network icon would have a red X over it for 2 1/2 minutes and the computer would not get on internet, have network and sharing center available, or being fully function, for 4 1/2 minutes.
Tried turning off all services and computer booted up in 1min 16 sec. Then experimented and put all services back, including all roxio services EXCEPT Roxio Hard Driver Watcher 10, and bootup at 1 min, approx 16sec. When Roxio Hard Drive Tracker 10 enables, back to 4 1/2 minute bootup.
Strangely enough, when also disable Distributed Link Tracking Client (because it sometimes interferes with Acronis True Image), the bootup slows down again.
With Roxio Hard Drive Tracker 10 service off, EMC-10 seems to still work (on quick but not exhaustive test of it).
Any one else have a similar problem?
What functionality am I losing having this Roxio service off at bootup?
Has this been fixed in later EMC versions?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

All that does is watch folders on your hard drive for additions or subtractions so that Media Manager can be updated.
You can turn it off without any adverse effects.
In fact most people turn it off right away.

Thanks tbrewst -
Now I not only feeled chuffed that I actually figured out how to resolve a problem on my computer, but I feel reassured I haven't, in the process, caused some other - worse - hidden disaster - which is the usual result when I get "creative"

BTW, just installed Creator 2010 on Toshiba laptop and got similar delay on bootup until disabled Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 12 from services. Will post that on Creator 2010 board also.
