I have downloaded movies and then transfered them to a dvd disc using Roxio Creator 9.05 XE, the discs perform well on my computer but will not play for too long on my divx dvd player. They will not play at all on a non divx dvd player. I have followed the ejection instructions for programming the discs to play on dvd players, but with some movies I will only get seconds of playing while another movie will play for 10 minutes. Previous discs I made with Nero work fine with the same dvd player but with Roxio Creator 9.05 XE made discs I get no such results.

Hope someone out there has some solution to this.

Where did you get these movies?
Most likely your Roxio Creator 9.05 XE is an OEM version which means that it has many features crippled and even missing.
What program from Creator 9.05 are you using to burn the movies? If the movies are in DivX format and you simply burn them to DVDs as data files then they will of course not play on non-DivX players. I have no idea what "ejection instructions for programming the discs to play on dvd players" you are talking about. If you create a standard video DVD there are no such instructions.

The bolded part of you post seems to indicate that you used the Drag to Disc app that was part of most EMC v9 packages. Using that to burn a disc (of any kind for any reason) is the most unreliable approach. Especially so for video.

Provide some details on what you did and what you are trying to accomplish.

I am not familiar with this means of communication. I hope you get this. I downloaded a video, using bitorrent, to my hard drive and wanted to watch it on tv with surround sound. There is a program on EMC9 that allows you to make a disc from your hard drive and that disc can be played on an external dvd player (with divx). This program pops up after you have recorded your disc and try to eject it from my dvd recorder called Mad Dog.

Did the Roxio version that you are using come with your Mad Dog writer? If yes then its an OEM version and is crippled and has many features of the full retail version missing. What "ejection instructions" are you talking about? What program pops up?

Creator 9.05 does not burn the videos, it transfers the file from your HD to your dvd recorder, which in this case is called "MadDog" and the Creator 9.05 XE software

Ok, lets go thru this one step at a time.

The file that you are trying to burn to a disc needs to be burned as just data on the disc. It just happens to be that it is a video file that you are going to play in a player that can play the type of data file it is.

The Roxio version you have (Easy Media Creator 9 XE) is a stripped down version that came with that Mad Dog drive.

Included in that EMC 9 XE suite of apps is an application named Drag-to-Disc, which is the window (what you called an icon) that resides in the lower right hand side of your screen. That particular app, as I noted in my earlier post, is the worst way to try to burn anything to a disc. You need to stop using that part of the EMC 9 XE suite for what you are trying to do.

It's my recommendation that you actually uninstall that particular part of the EMC 9 XE suite. In your Windows Control Panel, in Add/Remove Programs, there should be a listing for Roxio Drag-to-Disc (or something similar). You would select it and uninstall that particular item.

Now to how you should be burning the disc.

On your desktop there should be an icon that is round with a black flame in the middle. It will be either an Orange or a Blue circle. It will be labeled something like Roxio Easy Media Creator 9. Double click on that to open up the EMC 9 XE suite.

On the left hand side there will be a section named Data. Click on that and one of the choices will be Data Disc. Click on that.

Add your file (the divx one you are trying to burn) to the project, put a blank disc into the drive, and click on the burn button icon in the lower right corner. When done, it should work in your set top dvd player.

If you are using RW (re-writable and erasable) discs, and you want to re-use the one you made, you'll have to erase it first. That function would be under Tools section. You will have to have uninstalled the Drag-to-Disc app first. You will also have to choose the Full Erase option not the Quick erase option.

I wish to thank you for the help. You were right on. I can now view and share my downloads on tv. I am an old guy who is out of touch with the acronyms and programs of the time, and really appreciate the response I received from you digital gurus.
