Hello, I recently download Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Ever since I downloaded it my ECDC 5 stopped functioning properly. I am able to open the program and choose files I want to write onto the CD. When the writer has finished writing the files to the CD a window pops up saying "Roxio Easy CD Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close." ECDC 5 then shuts down leaving the CD blank. I am using ECDC 5 version 5.3.5.17. Any idea what might be causing this error ever since Service Pack 3 was downloaded?

At a guess, I'd say that something in XP-SP3 conflicts with ECDC 5. You should not get your hopes up that it can be fixed. ECDC 5 was published just before XP was launched, back about the turn of the century, and has been out of support for many years.

I am very happy that mine still works nicely in XP-SP2, but I'm not at all surprised that SP3 breaks it. If you change your Operating System too much you eventually have to upgrade your software. Another reason not to install SP3, I guess.

I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem, so I don't know what causes it or if there's a way to fix it. Perhaps rolling back XP-SP3 to SP2? I wish you well.
