Does anyone know a possible solution for me as the tech guys from Roxio seem a little flusteredby it and seemingly do not know how to fix it.
I own a JVC VHS camcorder and I am trying to import video from the camcorder to my pc or dvd burner. Everthing works as planned until I get to the final window where the capture tab is. For some unknown reason the capture tab will not highlight and this is after a 2 hour tech suppot call with roxio plus lot of installing unistallin and updating apps and all with zero change. Please anyone with similar problem help me.
Just so you know I own a new dell 530 inspiron with quad processors and bags of room on all drives.

Is the camcorder tape, hard drive or memory stck.  Please post the model number.

How do you have the camcorder attached to your computer? If it is tape, you have to use Firewire.   Use the jacks in the back of your computer; some of the ones in front don't have enough power.  Check your connections.

Sometimes it is the order in which you turn on the camcorder, open the program, run the tapes etc.  That is something you have to play with.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

If the camera has a Firewire port you must use that.  Is it an analog camera?  If so you need to convert the analog signal to digital using a USB device converter.

The person who told you to use the USB ports in front of your computer is wrong.  Normally, the Roxio program would see that as a web cam and would not work.

You can use the software that came with the camera since that was designed to work specifically with that camera.

WHAT CAMCORDER IS IT?

If you want help, please don't give credence to what support told you if someone on this site tells you different -- after all what support told you didn't work !  I may have a little more experience than that support person since I have used 3 different computers and 3 different camcorders  others have used many more camcorders and computers.  The support person may be reading out of a book and not have much hands on real life experience!  mad.gif

I can see clearly the video in the roxio window so I am presuming it must be receiving all the necessary data otherwise why would I be able to see the video image. I am using the video capture usb connector/convertor that came with the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD I have installed all the necessary drivers and app updates with the tech guys walking me through it and still no capture tab is highlighted. My camcorder is  a JVC Compact VHS GR-FXM15 Digital signal processing

You posted in the Creator 2009 forum.  Do you have that installed on your computer along with VHS to DVD?  They are incompatible !

The only other thing that I can think of is the USB port on your computer.

Did the tech walk you through a clean install?  That is the only other thing to try.

Have you talked to JVC or looked at their KB articles?  I could not find much on their site.

Please answer Sknis's question regarding if you have C2009 "AND" VHS2DVD installed on the same computer as this is very important---As Sknis advised---THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE !!!

I do not have VHS to DVD installed as stated if you have already own a roxio creator you cannot load it but download the usb driver for the converter connection. Trust me I have done everything and still no "CAPTURE TAB"
Obviously when I can see the video image there is no issue with image going from camcorder to PC,  and it could not be the usb port or otherwise why would I be able to see the video playing in the Roxio window.

it would seem to me there is some glitch in the program that does not recognize the video streaming into the Roxio progam, and that in itself is worrisome as when selecting capture device from drop down menu it does recognize the usb connection so if it can recognize the usb and you can see the vido feed playing within the roxio window why does the Capture tab not highlight. It seems sill that there is something writen into the program that does not automatically open all tabs regardless and then if one is selected and does not start the program will detect the error and suggest a fix for the solution. There seems to be too many errors in all these progams , makes me wonder if they are all on purpose or are the programmers just incometent

I do not understand why you are reluctant to try the USB port on the back of the computer.  You are the only one that seems to not be able to solve the problem and no one else seems to be able to help.  I dodn't design the program so I can't comment on your design rant.

Sorry, I don't have an answer.

The Roxio USB Capture Device draws power through the USB connector, feel it, is it warm?

Most front USB ports can't supply the power the device needs. That might be why the capture button won't highlight for you, not enough power, not enough signal!

The simplest thing to try and you won't do it?

I would plug the USB Capture Device into a USB port on the back of your PC and don't use a USB extension cord...

Support the device so the cords hanging from it isn't pulling the device out of the USB port.

I did as you suggested but with no luck, the same problem still exists. I must admit that it makes sense what you said, as sometimes I do notice a small brief faint  flicker on the "capture tab"but this is very rare but would seem to make some sense about power. If this is the case maybe the usb port itself is not functioning or transmitting enough power to the capture  tab. But that would also seem funny as why would the "capture tab" be singled out to not receive enough power? I dont think that all usb ports are faulty as I have tried them all!

The converter usb plugin gets hot in all ports after a while so I do not know if that is the problem either. But thanks for your input I do appreciate yours and every ones effort to assist me.
