I backed up my whole computer using Roxio version 7.0. I then made a fresh install and found that the version of Roxio was not there. So, I then downloaded the trial Version of Roxio 9.0 and tried to restore or retrieve my files without success. Can anyone help me with advice as to how I can get my files back? Thank you

Do you mean you had Easy Media Creator 7 suite? Is that the one you had, or some other variation?

That is a big suite of programs. Which one did you use, and how did you back up your computer?

What happened to your original install CDs, if you're a legitimate owner?

The original Easy Media Creator 7 suite(or 7.0 saved in 2008) was already on one of my back up discs or, so I thought from the manufacturer but, now it is no where to be seen. It had a restore option once discs had been backed up from the management section. However, with the new trial down from Roxio No 9 I cannot retrieve or restore my files as I did not back up there in the first place (there is no management file from a previous back up option):and,now in Roxio 9 it is only showing me a read me file. It was a simple back up my computer option that I used and took 4 x DVD's to create. Is there any way I can restore, retrieve or, simply look at the files I saved? Thank you for your time. Deke

Hello Deke,

In EMC7 a Backup request takes you to the backup section of Creator Classic. Once you have selected your files/folders to backup. Creator Classic burns your disc set. The Roxio Retrieve program should be on at least the first disc in the set.

There are a couple of ways you can get this program running:
[1] In Windows Explorer, double-click on the icon for your optical drive. That should run 'Autorun.inf' on your disc, and Retrieve will start up.

[2] Take the first disc of the set and OPEN it with Windows Explorer. You should see something like the top half of this screenshot. Double-click on Launch_Retrieve.exe and retrieve should run. [The dates are DD/MM/YYYY format in the clip]


You're then shown the retrieve screen [see the bottom half of the screenshot], and should check the box for $BAK001$, and click on the top right icon in Retrieve to copy your files back to your hard drive. Clicking the icon with the magnifying glass should allow you to search for a particular file, although I couldn't get that to work for me, perhaps because I only had one big file in the backup.

Of course, if you have specified any of the backup options at burn-time [below] then you'll be limited by those options.

Nope, don't want it.  Just wanted to know where the OP got it, because when you click on the shortcut, in the EMC 9 Trial Version forum, you get Roxio's main page, with no EMC Trial Version.

Hi Brendon

I am extremely grateful to you for taking all the time and trouble to post me so much information. However, I will have to purchase a full edition of Roxio, as the trial version does not contain the important retrieval program. I will buy a CD from a local computer shop I know. I cannot obtain the necassary parameters you speak of from the other matters discussed. Thank you again for your time and patience; it is much appreciated!

There have been some distractions in this topic, for which I apologize. But, perhaps through the distractions, you seem to have missed an important part of my message.

What I'm saying is that if you made a backup with Easy Media Creator 7 backup, there will be a copy of the important retrieval program on at least one of your backup discs. The idea is that Retrieve is carried on each backup set, so you don't need to buy or install any other software to restore your backups.

Would you please check this and come back to me. Look on the discs for one with the folder structure I showed in post #4. The Retrieve program shown in that same picture is the one which came off the backup disc. I tested this on a 'virgin' system which had not had any Roxio programs installed on it, and there it was.
