I'm tired of dropped frames and downloaded RoxioVHStoDVDSP2.zip hoping it would fix all my problems.  However, it just gives me a whole new problem instead.

It says to reinstall the software and then run the patch.  I do this and get the same message.  How do I "find" my software (which is right in front of my face)?!

Your software is not properly installed since the Service Pack cannot find it.

You need to go back to square one by doing the Clean Install:
Vista
XP

If you are dropping frames, it probably is your hardware’s inability to keep up! List you specs (like mine) and include HDD free space.

Is that the right information?  What can you tell from that?

Hi Emmyjay,
How about like it is now, only include the model number of your laptop where the "xxxx" is so that we can find other specs if we need them, such as what video chip your laptop uses.

If you would tell Jim how much free space you have on your hard drive, he will be in a position to advise you.

I don’t see anything indicating the M115 has a Celeron? Everythnhg I turned up shows a core2 duo…

In any case it is a bare minimum PC for running Video. It will work, but be very slow. biggrin.gif

And it is not the cause of the problem you are seeing.

Your SP2 download is corrupt (download it again SP2)

Or your program is not installed correctly (Clean Install).

There is not a 3rd option

I suppose there is the possibility that there are error or warning messages you are seeing but not telling us??? But more likely, you didn’t do everything in the Clean Install, line by line. Print it out and check off each line as you complete them.

There is a sticker on my laptop that says Intel Celeron M inside.  I started to redo all of the XP steps and had a problem at step 3.  When I go to Windows Install CleanUp, there is no Roxio , Sonic, EMC or SmartSound listed as an option to remove.

Also, I am doing the exact same thing on my regular computer to see if one works and the other doesn't.  I'll get back to you shortly on that one.

Could be Celeron, as I did not dredge too deep  laugh.gif

Good idea to test it out on your desktop!

If MS doesn’t list it, it indicates it was not installed – not properly.

Still, using Add/Remove Programs and following the rest will do it.

Pay attention during install to what messages are showing. I usually keep a pad and pencil at hand and make notes. (some parts fly by faster than I can write  biggrin.gif )

Keep us informed.

Well, I am getting exactly the same problem having just bought and tried to install this awful software ?

Downloaded the SP2 patch and got the same message.  Done the clean wipe and full reinstall ... with USB device showing up fine in the toolbar, but when the software starts I get no image in my preview feed and the capture button is grayed out.  I think I will take this software back to PC World and get a full refund ... I can't believe I have just wasted nearly five hours on this cheap rubbish, truly !! angry.gif

Have opend the software again and then looked into the 'about software box' ... under the version details it doesn't state any SP at all .. so, it's clearly not in there. However, I have already done the clean wipe and reintsall of the main software and according to my system it is installed fine. Even when running the software and in the click and burn screen, in the drop down box, the correct USB driver is shown, but still no feed or signal and a grayed out capture button.

Having had a look around this forum, I am quite literally staggered at the number of people that are having this dreaful basic and fundemental problems in even getting the software started - this is really poor implementation with the software !!

The software works just fine if you install it correctly and make the connections correctly. Most likely that is where your problem is.
If the "About" doesn't show any SP (it should be SP2) then you have not installed the software correctly.

Claiming that the software has "dreaful basic and fundemental problems" by the number of posts from people with problems is next to useless. Its like going into a garage seeing 3 Chevys in the service bays and then claiming that Chevrolet has "dreaful basic and fundemental problems"

Filmbuff... I am not getting a gray screen open up a new topic please.

Also, I'm sure it's obvious, but I'm not working with Creator 2010.  I simply have the Easy VHS to DVD with cable package.  I don't know if that makes a difference although I went through the rules deleting everything roxio and sonic.  I'm even debating whether I should wipe the slate clean on my laptop and try it again but I doubt it would work.  Have people tried this, had success, and also found it easier to record videos without dropped frames?  I haven't read a single thing to even know it works.

Another thought, I have XP SP3 not SP2.  Does that make a difference?

Don’t pay too much attention to filmbuff, he isn’t even on the same continent that you are laugh.gif   That means he is running different equipment that won’t even work in the US… Kind of rude when someone butts into a conversation. If he wants help he can start his own new topic.

For testing etc. I have installed this on 4 PC’s in XP as well as Vista. Only one gave me any trouble and the HDD failed within a week. Went on fine when the replacement HDD arrived.

Every one works and has had SP1 and SP2 installed without a glitch. It works great, I use it often. As far as XP, SP3 will not make any difference.

A couple more suggestions. Clean Uninstall then a 2 prong approach for the install.

One, copy the CD contents onto your HDD.

Two, create a new user account making sure you have full admin privileges for that account.

Then do an install under that account.

So my borther-in-law found out that my version of VHS to DVD was SP2 right off the CD.  It would eb a lot easier to fix this if they just offered an "upgrade" instead to those who already bought the product.

I have been deleting programs that I thought were unnecessary.  I've also switched to an older VCR, one that I suspect was where the material originated from.  My friend said that when you play it on the original vhs recorder you typically avoid lines at the bottom, and I'm starting to think that accounts for some frame dropping.  At the moment I'm re-transferring a video and the quality already appears better, but I won't know until I do a side by side comparison.

Image quality started off better but the audio is out of whack at points now.

I don’t think I would complain if I received the latest software…

Never heard of the CD containing SP2 and I would suspect it really came from your attempts to install it… If you attempt to add SP2 to V2D when it already has SP2 installed you get a different error message. One that tells you it is already there – looks like this:

SP2_already_installed_message.jpg

V2D w/SP2 looks like this when you click on Help – About:

V2D_SP2.jpg

You did not say what PC you are running this on… Your Celeron may not be able to keep up with the task. That is what results in dropped frames and makes the audio off.

Lines showing are electrical noise from the Tape/VCR. (I have some doozies on tapes from the early 80’s)

Also, if you are still using Plug & Burn, don’t! Use Capture instead. (pinned post at the top about P&B)
