Hello.

This might have been covered before, so please excuse this repeat inquiry.

I am trying to copy a non-copyright protected DVD made by my university of a lecture. The original DVD is -R, my blank DVD is +R.  Everytime I try to copy the university's DVD, the blank disk ejects with the warning "Insert blank disk......." Of course, I AM inserting a blank disk.

I am using Easy CS & DVD Buring V.9.

Any solutions to this problem? Thanks in advance.

Sure would like to know what the make & model of the Burner is???

I don’t have V9 handy, but I think in Creator Classic there is a Tools – Drives?

I believe that will return that info as well as your firmware level.

What is the brand and model number of your burner, please?
P4 @3.20GHz on Albatron PX-865PE Pro II with 2GB DDR-SDRAM, FX5900XT video, Viewsonic monitors,
BENQ DW1640, in XP Pro and Windows 7

I blame it all on Global Warming / Global Cooling / Global Staying the Same  [pick one]

I have two burners:

1) ATAPI DVD A DH20A4H
Firmware Version QC41

2) Sony DVD RW DW U-12A
Firmware Version 2.0c

Hope this information is helpful.

PS. Wouldn't it have been nice if Roxio would have allowed a user to cut/paste this information directly instead of making it a display only.

Hello,

The Lite-On DH20A4H is a +/- writer [latest firmware QP5B], but the Sony SW-U12A is advertised as a +R/+RW drive [essentially it's a DRU-500A]

You didn't say which burner ejects the blank, but I have heard of that Sony drive refusing to recognize DVD discs when its DVD optics went bad [it still burned CDs].

I'd suggest doing a single-drive copy using the burner which doesn't spit your disc out. Copy it to an image on the hard drive, and then burn to disc from that image.

I hope this helps,
Brendon

A great idea EXCEPT the better drive (ATAPI) also rejects the DVD+R disk. Yipes! Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

My Eagle-Eyed colleague Cdanteek elbowed my ribs to point out that the Sony is a +/- drive too [I misread the specs I was referring to, muy bad, my apologies, need coffee!] however that doesn't change the recommendations. I have copied a DVD- to a DVD+ blank and vice-versa without problems.

I can't see why both drives are rejecting your blank discs, though. What brand/speed are the discs?

If you're getting a proper read on the source disc, may I suggest you use the Copy > Save Image part of the menu to save an image of the DVD to your hard drive, and then use Copy > Burn Image to Disc to try and burn the thing as a separate operation.

If you can, save it as an ISO file so that if 'Burn Image' falls over and spits the disc, you can try burning the ISO to plastic with the ever-reliable and simple free download ImgBurn.

Please let us know how you get on. This has me intrigued.

Regards,
Brendon
