I've been using Roxio for since version 3 or 4.

It has always been a little fragile / buggy, but over time my hope was that Sonic would invest in improving the quality of the product.  I've created enough content that it has always been easier to stay and put up with the bugs than to leave.

But after the latest upgrade to Creator 10 I've seen the following:

- can't open many of my old projects
- MyDVD and Videowave crash frequently

So anyway, now that I can't open most of my previous work, I'm not locked in anymore.

Suggestions on other products that actually work?  Adobe?  Nero?

“Creator 10” is an old product from some years ago???

Do you mean you have Creator 2010?

I think Creator 2009 projects work in 2010 but that’s about it.

List your system specs.

Jim, thanks for the additional info regarding Roxio obsoleting my recent work (weeks of time invested apparently lost).  BTW, you are right it's Creator 2010.  Purchased it online about a week ago.

Anybody have suggestions for bug-free products that have similar capability?

Sorry, but I haven't seen any application that is 'bug free'.  Just read the forums for other software. smile.gif  Adobe, Sony, Ulead, Pinnacle......  they all have issues.

Over the years, I have found that backward compatibility is not a given.  Even some MS Office versions weren't.  Does your computer meet the requirements for Creator 2010?  WinXP SP3, Vista SP1 or Win7.  If you are having issues with crashes, Uninstall / then clean install.  Make sure you have all Microsoft updates.   If using WinXP, updated DirectX to latest and update your video and audio drivers.

Hi Craig

Boy I wish I had seen your post last week when I was investigating Corel, Cyberlink and Nero.

I downloaded RC2010 about five days ago on an 8 month old Dell vostro 1510 laptop  with all the correct power specs and only MS business software on it.  Everything is up to date on this machine yet I've too have noticed and am amazed at how buggy and fragile RC2010 is.  I have still not been able to open the "home" part of the application and thus I cannot even get to the tutorials.  I have to go in to Programs and open each application independently.  VideoWave and MyDVD have been especially problematic with not all of even the basic features (eg, trimming and adding chapter markers) working well.

I'd rather get out now before I invest anymore time.  I think I wrongly assumed that with so many versions out and the length of time Roxio has been doing it,  I'd get something super stable.

I will follow the responses to your query with interest.  Thanks for your post!

Dude, I've got the specs to run the product, everything's up-to-date and in-spec.  Regarding bugs, I agree, but there is a limit.  Less than 5 minutes of use between crashes is way over mine.

Can't help with the first problem as that is by design.  For crashing, you may need to uninstall and follow the steps for a clean install.

Perhaps you should not have procrastinated, and finished your productions, prior to doing upgrades in software.

And, I agree on having the Roxio software, backwards compatible.

They are complete, but every so often, it's nice to use them in other places.

I see that Microsoft is getting good reviews for the new Movie Maker BTW - anyone tried it yet?

Hi all, I just checked out Windows Live Movie Maker.  It's less richly featured than Videowave, but is much faster and more effectively designed - fewer clicks to do the same task.  It has a number of cool things that I've wanted from Videowave:

- Doesn't crash frequently
- You can instantly switch back and forth from 4:3 to 16:9
- Nice selection of transitions and pan/zoom effects
- Easy to switch output resolutions
- Fast

Still not Apples-Apples by a long shot, but I'm going to try it for a few days and see...  If anyone has any other suggestions please send them on.

Have you checked the output options?  I didn't see any other than WMV.  And personally, I dislike the new 'Office type' interface.  Cluttered and things are too difficult to find, but each to their own.

CP monitor is CinePlayer Monitor; make sure it is not running (look at processes).
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Rebooted and now have this: Setup encountered an error during installation.  Error Code 04C7.

Now I can't install or uninstall.  So disappointed with my experience on this product.
