Ok, posted the following in someone else's thread and was somewhat lambasted for doing so ... also, then somewhat rudely advised that I was on another continent so I don't matter - I thougyht forums were pretty much global, but if there is a UK specific one then someoThe software works just fine if you install it correctly and make the connections correctly. Most likely that is where your problem is.
Bascially, I followed all instructions for intall of Easy VHS to DVD. According to my system, all installed fine first time around, but when I opened the software and tried to Rip n Burn, I didn't get any feed whatsoever into the preview screen and the capture button was grayed out. And, yes, before someone says it, I did check all my cables and it was connected correctly from VHS to Roxio Capture USB Key ( as per diagram advice ) ... I even tried two different VHS recorders along with two sets of cables.
So, hurridly took off to the website to be advised to uninstall everything and do a clean install. So, went through this rigmorall again and the software installed as before ( the software showed up fine also in the Add/Remove programs tab, as well as indicating the device as and when I plugged it in and out of a USB sockett ). However, again upon opening, same thing ? So, was advised to install SP2 update. Downloaded it and when trying to run the exe file, I got the message that the software could not be located - yet the Roxio prgram was right in front of me sitting on the desktop ( and I could comfortably open it ). This was fast becoming a very frustrating situation !
I have since emailes support, but I need to burn some VHS footage to DVD in the next 36 hrs for some legal stuff. if I don't get the answers now, I may be left in a bit of a pickle. I am thinking to take this software stright back to PC World and change it over for a Magix product or Pinnacle.
I was advised the following by someone on here :
If the "About" doesn't show any SP (it should be SP2) then you have not installed the software correctly, nor connected it up in the right way.
Well, actually, I have done both correctly and more than once ... my system is telling me it's installed so what more am I supposed to have to do - it's plug n play, right ?

No it is not Plug & Play – actually few USB devices are… Drivers are critical and if not installed per instructions, it will never work!
Read through cdanteek’s pinned post at the top here and compare his pictures with your system. They must match.
I have a similar post for Creator 2009 which covers capture pretty well and may be of use – Here
Being UK you will also run into the infamious SCART converter. Never seen one but many users report that while their SCART adapter has video output plugs to connect to – they don’t work!!! A nearby electronics store in your area will be able to advise you on that. – I have one listing from Amazon UK for the correct one, Amazon UK.
Give those a run just to isolate Capture, then we will tackle the SP2 problem…

Cheers for the help, Jim - I look into the scart issue. I was using a scart adaptor sockett to run the red, white and yellow cables into from the roxio adaptor ( this could be the root cause even ? ).

Well if the SCART is not passing Video, it would explain that capture issue…
If you have any other source of video available, either RCA composite or S-Video, you could substitute that for a quick test.
Could be camcorder, TV, DVD, anything with those outputs.
Still think you may have other issues, but with your deadline, we want to get this running as soon as we can!

OK, how about the posts picture/comparisons I linked???
You never listed your PC specs or OS??? If the drivers are correctly installed, XP can use WMM to capture from the USB 2861 Device. Of course that was too good so MS removed that ability in Vista

Using XP Home Edition.
Pc Specs :
Intel Core 2 Duo ( E6750 )
Asus P5 Mobo
NVida 7300 Graphics
2 x 500 gig HDs
8 x USB2 ports
Dumb question, but I didn't see an option for using the WMM - only the Roxio showed up in the drop down box in the software itself ?

No, no – not a dumb question at all!
The WMM is not launched from Roxio but rather started by itself.
Since you have XP do it and select the USB 2861 Device for the source and try your input devices.
If it doesn’t work there, the install is bad! 2 fixes from that point…
One – download and install the driver set, Here
Two – The Clean Install procedure, XP. But try the driver alone first.

Yeh, tried all of that, Jim ... but no joy ! So, for the sake of all the faffing about, I just boxed the lot up and took it back to the store. Got a full refund and opted for Magix Rescue Video .... no issues at all here ... just plug it in and it recognises your VCR feed without any further messing around or fixes and extra downloads.
Listen, thanks for trying to help any way, Jim ... very much appreciated.

OK, not a problem!
I am sorry it did not work out.
I am going to lock this out – old posts tend to draw flies
