Hello,
I recently purchased easy vhs to dvd and have tried to install it half a dozen times with no luck. The online techs have been no help either. First they tell me to do a clean install, but they give me directions for the wrong software and steps that won't work because there is no software to uninstall. Then they tell me to try copying and pasting the files from the install disk. This didn't work either. It kept getting hung up MS.net v3.5 sp1. They told me to see if I had this software already on my comp and, if so, uninstall it, but I don't have it. I have tried installing it from windows update twice with no luck. The .net framework stuff I do have is 1.1, 2.0 and hotfix 1.1. My operating system is windows xp and I have windows live one care for virus protection. My pc is an hp media center, so I should have all the components necessary for this software. I am about at my wits end and ready to return the software unless I get some real help. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Pringle -

Sorry you're having a frustrating experience.

A few points:

1) Did you follow the clean install instructions exactly? What instructions did they give you? Do you have an article link? What OS are you running?

2) The biggest failure for install issues is Anti-Virus apps. As per the clean install instructions, you will want to *temporarily* disable you MS AV app for installation at start up.

3) Try this article regarding .Net Framework: http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en I know I know, it says Creator 2009, buy Easy VHS to DVD is based on the same code and may apply here. I'll double check with our engineering team and see if I can safel add Easy VHS to DVD as a product for this article.

Let me know how it goes.

Jon

Hello,
Thank you for your quick reply. The link below is the clean install article. I have said many times to the techs I have talked to that this won't work because easy vhs to dvd does not install period. There is no software to uninstall per the article. Your framework article is no help either because I do not have framework 3.5 SP1 on my computer. I said in the OP that this component has failed to install from windows update twice. How do I uninstall something I don't have? I also said the OP that my operating system is windows XP. I get that virus protector programs can conflict, but have had way too many issues to risk disabling mine even for a minute. I just had to to a system restore last week, because it somehow got disabled and we got a bug. I will not disable it for anything. Is there someway I can configure it to work around the roxio software without disabling it? I've seen that as a possibility with other programs.
Thank you again for your help.

Quit trying to outthink it! laugh.gif It isn't working for you...

Print it out.

Follow the instructions.

Pay attention to what is going on and keep notes as it goes. That way if it does stop, you will have something to report.

How many times do I have to say this? The Easy VHS to DVD does not install period. It is NOT on my add/remove programs list nor is it in my C drive program files folder. The clean install will not work. I can't uninstall a program I don't have. I also have no previous versions of roxio software on this computer. So there is nothing to uninstall. What I need is a work around for the .net framework component that won't install and a way to configure my virus software so that I won't have to disable it, because I refuse to do so.
If you can help with these problems, I would appreciate it.
Thank you

Some components may get installed beyond add/remove and program files...just go through the article entirely *without the disabling and rebooting* to see if anything has shown up in the folders listed and the registry. This is a safety precaution and to assure there aren't any conflicts with previous attempts.

It kept getting hung up MS.net v3.5 sp1.

How long does it get hung up on the .NET Framework? How long did it hang before you quit out of the installation?

It gets hung up at the .net framework for about five minutes and then just finishes the set up. I don't do anything except click finish when it comes to that window. I've sent a support ticket to Microsoft about this component because I have also tried to install it through their windows update with no success. This seems to be the only problem with installing the roxio software, so I'm hoping Microsoft can give me an answer.

Ok, let us know what MS says.

Also, the short install and fail reminds me that there was a similar issue years ago with the DirectXInstallService, which is why it got added (and grandfathered) into step 3 of the Clean Install instructions...please also, when you get a chance, clarify that you have or have not gone through the instructions as mentioned in my previous post. It helps us eliminate variables for you. smile.gif

Thanks,

Jon

I did try steps 4-8 in the clean install article, but there were no roxio folders or components to delete or uninstall. I have sonic folders, but those are for my Sonic DVD burner and will not be removed. I also did download the tool in step 3 and will see if there are components of this service pack that I could remove with it. I'll keep you posted on what MS says.

A DVD Burner installs NOTHING!

These were from your attempts to install the software and were what needed to be removed.

One has to wonder what might happen if you would follow all the instructions??? smile.gif

At any rate, now we have to wait to see what MS will have to say.
