The options button in VCC split from someone else's topic

I've used Video Copy and Convert perfectly successfully in previous versions.
On opening VCC for the first time in 2010, I clicked the "options" button to see the choices, saw no need to change settings, clicked "cancel", and Windows told me there was an error with the program and it had to close.
Nothing daunted I restarted the program, resolved to leave the "options" button well alone for the time being, and successfully converted a wmv file to iPod mp4.
My next effort was to extract a single title from a dvd.
VCC happily cached the title, and began to convert the file, but with subtitles added.
I clicked "cancel", VCC accepted this, and halted the process.
Now I had to use the "options" button. Sure enough the default setting was "subtitles on - english". I changed the setting to "none", and tried to redo the conversion.
This time VCC simply froze. After waiting I tried to cancel the process. VCC acknowledged the request, but froze again in the cancellation process.
I could only escape by closing VCC in Windows Task Manager.
By this time VCC was exhibiting various signs of distress.
I tried to "repair" using Control Panel, but got the message that the required installation files were not present in the system. I checked, and they weren't.
I tried to "repair" by re-running the installation program - and got the same message. This time however, I had monitored the temporary installation folders and I saw the correct files being unzipped to the correct folders - but files and folders were deleted just before the repair process kicked in.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times, but these fault symptoms remain the same - I've checked yet again whilst composing this post.
Standard conversions between formats are OK, though I haven't tried them all.
Modifications through the "custom" button seem OK, though I haven't tried them all.
But the "options" button gives me a shock every time I touch it. Changes to "options" settings cause VCC to crash. The changes are lost in the crash, so I can't get what I want even by brute force.
So I think:
1. There's a glitch lurking behind the "options" button in VCC - whether it's a fundamental flaw in VCC, or in the specific version of VCC supplied by ESD, or through some rogue interaction with Windows Vista I don't know. Is this the origin of any problems other users are having?
2.The Roxio ESD installer eliminates any future "repair" support, for any module, by deleting its own installation files - or at least allowing them to be deleted by some other process.

This is a known bug and has been reported many times in this forum as well as to Roxio. It seems to effect mostly Vista 64 users but has also been noticed with others OS. Hopefully it will be corrected in the first update.

I know it sounds weird... and it's nowhere near a fix nor a workaround, but I found that (at least on my system) when I remove Office 2007 completely I no longer have the "VCC options crash". Re-installing (any element of) Office 2007 makes the "VCC options crash" to re-appear

Roxio is aware. I have PM-ed some other users that reported this problem, but all the confirmation I got was that they had (some flavor) of Office 2007 installed. So far I found nobody to confirm that if they removed Office 2007 the VCC crash had gone, so it could still be my system specific.

If you could, then at least I guess it would be helpfull to Roxio for troubleshooting this issue. (I haven't received any confirmation of the opposite from anybody as well - meaning still having the VCC Options crash after removing Office 2007).

It crashes for me on my Vista 64 with Office 2007 installed. Since that is a trial version I will be uninstalling it since it has expired anyway and will test again.

I installed Roxio 2010 on a different machine, Medion laptop, from my original, Medion desktop.
The laptop has never had Office 2007 installed, and currently has no version of Office installed.
OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
Installation file is Roxio 2010 ESD version.
Trying to use VCC on the laptop gives rise to exactly the same failures, and successes, as described in my original post.
I have uninstalled all Microsoft Office applications from the desktop, but the problems with VCC remain there also.
Two other aspects of this issue that I should like to emphasise:
1. file conversions that work perfectly well if the options button is unused, do not work at all if the options button is previously used - they just hang - cancelling hangs - and VCC has to be forcibly closed with Task Manager.
2. navigating the Windows file system using VCC's Media Selector mechanism is horrendously slow - many times slower than in Windows Explorer or using similar mechanisms in other applications - this seems to apply particularly when referencing files on external drives - and often causes VCC to hang completely.
I await an amended version of VCC with bated breath.

That's a shame, but good info none the less. So, what works for me doesn't work for all...

Can’t rule it out yet – only 2 people have tried it!
Another poster reports that AVCHD Archive does not work on his PC with MS Office 2007 but does on his other PC.
I will see if I can get him to check VVC Options too…

Could be? But Martin Decker (post above) specified that having Any part of MS Office 2007 produced the error.
Also found to apply to Roxio AVCHD Archive… Got Office 2007? It don’t work!
