Hi

I've recently bought Roxio Creator 2010 and whilst trying to burn some videos, I'm getting hit & miss.

The videos are a collection of Photo Shows I've created. Each Photo Show is around 4-5 minutes. There's to videos in total, each video containing 6 Photo Shows.

Once I started to burn the discs all the right messages were coming up.

Here's what I was getting

Open project - Result shown as a tick
Encoding movie (6 of 6) - Result shown as a tick
Encode menus - Result as a tick
Record menus - Result as a tick
Complete - Result as a tick

Overall Progress (100%)

Then I get this message;

Failed to start the image writing operation error while Burning Image

In a detail box I received this message

Failed to start the image writing operation Error while  Burning Image
80004003 Error while  Aborting

I gave it a few goes, then I managed to Burn two discs, however I have been unable to burn any more, I keep getting the same image.

I read on another thread some advice given

You should be disconnected from the Internet and doing nothing else while you are doing any video work

Although the first two discs worked whilst I was connected to the Internet, I took this advice and still I came up with the same error

Can anyone advise where or what I need to do to stop this (very frustrating) problem

Thanks in advance

Mack

What is the format of the videos you are starting with?

Are you using Create DVD =Advanced or are you using Video Copy and Convert?  Are you burning directly to disc or are you creating an image file?  Standard definition or high definition?

Does Windows see your burner?

Perhaps if you give us a step by step of what your are doing, we can put  that together with the error message.

Please provide your computer specs at leats the manufacturer and full model number.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. I'm not great with a lot of the PC lingo, so please bear with me.

To start with, I created a few slide shows through Roxio PhotoShow. I upgraded to Roxio PhotoShow Premium Service  used that to create the photoshows. Once these were finished, I opened up Create DVD program. The project type I chose was DVD standard definition.

Once I had changed menu styles etc... I then added each photoshow to this application. The format of the videos are wmv.

Does Windows see your burner? I don't understand this one

Please provide your computer specs at least the manufacturer and full model number

Again. I'm not sure about this. I have stickers on my computer that say this;

Windows XP Media center edition 2005 Packard Bell

Not sure if this means anything.

Product Name Istart 2369
Model - CHOP-RC410-M R4M00  IDM009E

Where I really don't follow is that I have managed to burn 2 discs with no problem.

Once again, thanks for any advise

How familiar are you with computers.  You burner may need a firmware update. See this.

Who is the disc manufacturer.  Memorex and store brands are junk and can cause lots of problems.  You burner is old and may be starting to go bad.

How familiar ? I've had a computer now for 9 years, this being my third. I'm pretty good at using programs etc...

Just not that knowledge on the makings of a computer.

Have I given you some duff info ?

Re- your question about the discs. In the past I have used Tuff Disc 16X DVD+R

The discs I'm currently using are Mmirror DVD+R 16X

My question was in relationship to doing a firmware update on your burner, not on any information you provided.  If you go to the link I provided, you will see a lot of warnings about firmware update.  Some people are unwilling to try it.

Tuff disc are described as "b" grade media. Read this.   I also saw where there were some counterfeits.  I could not even find Mmirror.  Do yourself a favor and buy a couple of Best quality DVD RWs to play with.  When you are ready to burn, use the best quality available to you -- after all you are not putting stuff on the discs that you don't want.

I'm not sure if you can get Verbatim where you are.  The best discs I found were Taiyo Yuden from on-line merchants.

I have been searching for answers other than hardware but found none (Search Google for that error phrase).  Do you know anyone that has an external USB plug in burner.  Try that.  If it works, you know that your burner or the media is bad.  Make sure the burner works on your friend;s computer.

BTW, make sure that your have updated the drivers for your video card from PB and DirectX from Microsoft.

Are you from the UK?

Mirror is a popular brand at the value end of the market, but they're also a well-known name- not some obscure pseudo-brand.

Tuffdisc is a new brand of blank media that originates from the stables of tier one manufacturers in the Far East. laugh.gif

Both sound like landfill media to me..

Hi, I've just logged back in to say thanks for all your help. I have used the links you've provided they've given me an insight into a few things I was oblivous of.

I've now successfully burned my videos onto discs, and also updated some of my software.

I see I need to make an apoligy, I didn't realise I had doubled the M on Mirror, with all the confusion, I'm going to use that as my excuse.

Thanks again
