I was using Creator 2009 to build my own videos. All was good except for the reaction time of the application that drop a lot as the project length inscreases.   dry.gif

I updated to Creator 2010. Now, the same project created in 2009 doesn't play good. First all my Fx, transition and special composition do not play. When I click on a Fx like a animated Text it does not show in the property tab and it display 'Item not found'. So when I play my video in Creator editing application I only have the main video showing with the music and sound. I do not have any more Fx transition between scenes, nor any text or animations.

Question : Do I need a special program to convert files or project's format from Creator 2009 to 2010?
What can I do to play my project properly with CReator 2010? Did I forget to do something in the installation of 2010?

I have a Windows XP-SP3, Pentium 4 CPU 3.40GHz, 1.00 Go RAM 121Go disk with 30 Go available, MS-StartForce GeForce 6600 6600 GT 128 MB DDR SDRAM nv4_disp version 6.4.11

Thank you.

Nothing said older projects will work… Traditionally, they do not. Simple ones seem OK, but those with transitions enjoy less success.

Your PC was top of the line when the P4 was king but not so much these days. But there are a couple of things you can try.

Tools – Options – Render, set it to Software. This speeds up editing in VW. It will cost you 3D transitions but you will have to decide if a couple of seconds flashing by the screen is more important than your impatience with the editors speed…  glare.gif That could be a tough call  laugh.gif

If you keep your clips as AVI they slide through much easier than mepg’s do. Bigger files, to be sure but they are fast

More RAM will help, but frankly, from 1GB to 2GB, I doubt you will really notice any difference. I would be saving my money for a Quad Core  biggrin.gif

Another tactic is to work is smaller segments, say 20 minutes worth. In the end, assuming you only want 1 big movie, you can add them together in VW, save and go to MyDVD.

FYI: An editor cannot hold an entire file so you are really seeing a small “RAM window” of the file on screen. When you move in the editor, it has to save everything to HDD and load a new “RAM window” of the file into the editor.

Now compound all of that HDD traffic with an mpeg file. It has to be un-compressed to be shown in that ”RAM window” , then when you move, it has to be compressed, stored to HDD, and a new portion un-compressed and loaded into the ”RAM window” . AVI files are not compressed, so they can get moved faster.

Things are looking pretty busy for the CPU and HDD. Defragging the HDD helps some but nothing is going to change all that activity.

I am amazed that version 2010 is not FULLY compatible with version 2009. angry.gif

I am a software developper and this is my major goal in customer satisfaction is to keep my product up-to-date and forward compatible at least. When I go from Visual-Studio 2003 to 2005 and then to 2008 my project upgrades and converts automatically. Yes it is not backward compatible but it is at least forward converted.

It took me a month to build and adjust my video with Creator 2009 do you mean that I will have to redo all my transitions scenes, my animated text and timing Fx feature all over again. I am sure there is something I do not understand or is out of reach?

Tell me, what can I do to remaster my 2009 version video in Creator 2010? Does that mean that I am stuck with version 2009 for my old project and that I cannot rework my old version(not that old anyway) to version 2010?

Thank you  unsure.gif

Yes, and yes that is correct.   You can rework the Creator 2009 files by replacing eveything but the original videos and images.  You may be better off starting from scratch.    sad.gif

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Well thank you for all your information, comments and support.

So with your comments, you are saying that you are not improving your products, you prefer doing brand new product all across without any compatibility features between versions?

I will have to use 2009 for my old version every time I will need to do some rework on them...? Your right : "That is not a bug" but it is a major conceptual fault in project evolution. It is your decision. Not the best one ever but your decision.

I will try to reedit my project in 2010 and see if any speed or quality gain can be accomplished by using the new 2010 version? Or else, I will keep for ever an ever my old versio 2009? That is an unorthodoc concept but if that's what it is ...? Then that's what it will be! blink.gif
