Video Copy & Convert Data Rate Issue

When using Video Copy & Convert to convert an unprotected and non-commercial dvd to Smartphone format, any adjustments to the data rate revert to the default data rate in the finished product. Other parameters, such as resolution and frame rate work properly. Any suggestions?

If you post some detailed specifics, we will try to duplicate your results???

I am not sure how detailed you need it, but here goes. I am attempting to convert an educational dvd produced by my university for use on my pda device. The dvd is stored on my hard drive and I used the Video Copy & Convert feature in Roxio 2010 to convert to wmv format. After loading the dvd using add source (movies), I select smartphone in the choose output panel. Then I adjust the video size (custom) to a smaller file size, which reduces the data rate. At this point, everything look great. However, once the file is copied to wmv format, the data rate is back up to default rate (780 kbps) and the file size is quite large. After running several attempts, it appears that changes in resolution and frame rate translate to the produced file, however, changes in the data rate do not. I am thinking this is a flaw in the program, or maybe I am missing something.

Yes that is precisely the detail I was after. And you may be right!
I took a 2:59 movie and slid the data rate to 200kbps. The result was a 19,788KB file.
I took the same move and left it at default, 780kbps and the resulting file is 19,796KB.
I made another attempt, dropping the Resolution to 320 X 180 and the Data Rate to 200 kbps = 19,765.
No matter what setting is used, the files are coming out almost the same size… 19,788; 19,796 & 19,765
I went to end and chose Video. Then set that to WMV smallest data rate and presto, a 7,255KB file:
So that is the work around you can try to make them, and I will make sure this gets to Roxio!

Your "work around" works for me. Thanks for coming up with a fix and reporting the original problem to Roxio.
