Hi all.  I am trying to install Creator 2009 on my WORKHORSE computer, which happens to have Windows XP home edition on it.  When I put the install dvd into the drive, the drive doesnt read it and the message I get when I use explorer and try to look at the drive is "Windows cannot read from this disk.  It is either corrupted or using a format that is not compatible with windows" and the header for the error box says "disk not formatted"

HELPPPPPPPPPPPP, I didnt see anything in here about this error.

I have another computer, a laptop, that dual boots with vista and XP professional.  When I booted it to XP pro, it read the disk just fine............

Could be that the player/burner is going bad.  See if you can COPY the DVD contents to a folder on your hard drive using an external drive and install from your hard drive.  Since the laptop can see the disc, you workhorse may need some TLC (and maybe a new player/burner).  BTW, if it is an old workhorse, can it read DVD discs (any).
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

I ran into similar issues, where my almost new Plextor PX-800A refused to read the iCreator 2009 special edition nstall disk. I further uncovered using NERO info tools that I had corrupt ASPI32.sys & WNaspi32.DLL. I had to search like a madman to find replacements, took me two days. I cleaned out the registry and installed the "good" drivers. After a long wait was finally be read by the Plextor drive.

I am not overly impressed with the software as it doesn't handle DVD video as my ancient Nero 6 Ultra does.

But I have a another question. As part of my house keeping I updated Direct X ver 9.0 to Ver11.

Then when the Creator 2009 installed, IT reinstalled Direct X ver 9.0 again?

Will this replace the VER 11 I use with WMP? or is the Ver 9.0 only used inside Creator? Please advise

SX 9 is only used on XP - DX 10 was for Vista and also W7 - personally I've never heard of DX11 (not saying there isn't one)

However MS have never re-numbered DX 9,0c - it just keeps getting updated every few months but remains '9.0c'

There is a DX11.  I don't know if it has been released yet, but the upcoming ATI Radeon 5800 series video cards will support it.

The point though Bruce is DX10 and 11 are NOT 'updates' to 9.0c. The updates for that are still 9.0c

You are correct.  All DX9 updates, being named 9.0c, is just another MS weirdness.  smile.gif

DX10 is Vista, and the DX 11 will be tailored (supposedly) for Win7.
