Ever since installing Roxio 10, my computer is running extremely slow.

Windows Task Manager shows VxBlockServer.exe running continuously taking up a lot of CPU resources.  To run other tasks, I frequently have to set the priority of VxBlockServer.exe to Low.

1.  Is this normal?  If normal, do I want to stop this process and how do I do that?
2.  If not normal, how do I fix?

Thanks!

No clue what VxBlockServer is.  I don't see it in my Task Manager.

Do you have Creator 2010, or do you have Easy Media Creator 10?  They are 2 totally different suites.

It may be part of your anti-virus or it is malware.  It may also be part of an old left over Sonic program.  Did you have one installed before you installed the new program?

There is NO Roxio 10.  There is Roxio Creator 2010 and there is Roxio Easy Media Creator 10.  Which one did you install?

That exe is not part of Creator 10.

My guess is the OP has Creator 2010 and just mis-noted it as 10.

I'm not sure what exactly is using that file, but it is a Sonic file. It's basically a COM server wrapper. I do believe it's installed as part of something in Creator 2010 or one of the addons in the Pro suite.

I don't know why it should be using up much in the way of resources tho. On my pc, it usually shows 0 - 4 on the CPU usage and only 1300 kb of memory. It has no impact on my system performance and I have done nothing to "adjust" it since installing C2010.

Larry, I can't find it on my install of Creator 2010 but I will search again.
Google says the .dll may be part of Music Match or Picasa or others.

I found it; it is part of the PX storage engine in "Common Files"    I can't find that in the installer files for Creator 2010.  The date of that file is however March 2009.  I have no other Roxio branded software on my computer but as you know, Roxio (Sonic Solutions) supplies technology to other people including  Microsoft.

I don't know if it's located individually in the install files, I'll try looking when i get a chance.

I'm showing it installed in the location noted in the picture attached. It's a Sonic file, and the PX Storage folder has a created date stamp that matches with when I first installed C2010.

I wonder if it is part of the Roxio Media Manager cataloging the hard drive files?  A lot of people have that disabled but others may not.  Since he OP is a recent installation, and may have a lot of uncatalogued files, it may be working hard.

To the OP, unless you need it, open Media Manager (Browse and Manage Media) and select:  (Oops , that should be don't put an x here.

Thank you for all the assistance so far.

Yes, it is Roxio Creator 2010.

I turned off the Folder Monitoring. restarted and VxBlockServer is still actively and constantly using up resources.

I appreciate the help!

Any other ideas?

A search on my system shows I have two versions on my system (only one in the System32 folder) and they are related to Photoshow and/or Picasa

Vxblockserver.exe is installed by BurnMgr.msi from the BURNMANAGER12 folder of the Creator 2010 installer. It's part of the Roxio Burn Manager.

Is the burn manager needed,or is it like the packet writing software that was in Creator 9?.My assumption is that it has something to do with the drag files to the desktop to the little burn icon.I just also bought the 2010 pro,it is way better than EMC 9,I think.I can not have any packet writing software on my system,it interferes with other programs I have.

I think it's part of the general burning engine rather than the 'Roxio Burn" icon thing, but I haven't pulled it apart to see. It is definitely not anything to do with packet writing.

Roxio Customer Service wisdom was to turn everything off via msconfig.  sad.gif

I eliminated the problem by turning off RoxioBurnLauncher.exe via msconfig.

What are the downsides by leaving this turned off?

Test it - will you be able to burn (a CD or DVD) using the Roxio software?

If you turned it  off in the Startup tab(via "msconfig") then all you have done is stopped it running when you first turn your computer on.

I think if you turn off the RoxioBurnLauncher at startup, then you won't get the new "Roxio Burn" applet starting up - the one which brings a handy-access GUI up at the bottom right of the screen when you insert a disc in the drive.

I think that's the only result of turning it off, but I'm a few thousand miles from my home machine so I can't test it for you right now.
