I just jumped in with both feet, and purchased what I thought was the proper tool (Cineplayer DVD Decoder) to allow my Windows Media player to function as a DVD playback, but find that it shows video application data on the player, but I get no picture, and usually, no sound either. I have the latest DirectX, and the latest MediaPlayer editions, but nothing works when I attemp to run a DVD disk on my DVD player. It functioned, albeit jerkily, using PowerDVD 5, and I may well have just upgraded to the newest PowerDVD (8?), but I did not.
Can anyone tell me if I am on a wild-goose chase, or am I doing something wrong. I've tried all the suggested fixes I could locate on the Roxio websites, to no avail. I'm at wit's end, but it was in short supply to start. Thanks in advance, for any and all assistance, Yogi

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

The computer is a ThinkPad T23, 1.3 GHZ, 1024 MB SDRAM, with a Matshita UJDA 720 DVD-CWRW, Windows XP Pro, Service pac 3+, Media Player 11, all upgrades done, all working normally. The Power DVD5 worked for several years, but the last time I tried running a DVD movie disk, it was a bit unstable and jerky, so I decided to "upgrade?" the DVD Decoder. I guess I should of just stayed with the Power DVD system and updated to Power DVD 8.
From all I have been able to discern from the website, Cineplayer should facilitate playing DVD's using the MediaPlayer format, but it doesn't seem to be the case for me.
Any ideas as to a fix? I would be very grateful. I can't seem to get ANY response from the people that sold me the item, so you may be my only hope. God Bless, Yogi

Go to Control Panel and look for Cineplayer option and try disabling/enabling Hardware Acceleration. BTW what kind of video card do you have?

Have no idea what video card is. Standard issue for ThinkPad T23 The system has been tried with Hardware accelerator both enabled and disabled. No difference. Power DVD 5 ran, so I expect ineplayer should, as well. Thanks anyway.

Try following
1. Start --> Run --> Type "dvdupgrd /detect" --> OK. Verify the type of codec
2. Update drivers for your video card specified.
3. Try doing uninstall / re-install.
