A DVD Burner installs NOTHING!

These were from your attempts to install the software and were what needed to be removed.

One has to wonder what might happen if you would follow all the instructions??? smile.gif

At any rate, now we have to wait to see what MS will have to say.

I'm having the same exact problem, also getting stuck on the Microsoft.net v-something stage of the install. I've tried it several times, it says the installation is complete and so I click on finish to find no icon on my desktop and no evidence of anything from Roxio in my programs or when I do a search for Roxio or easy VHS to DVD.
Very frustrating. And then I see that to call someone will cost me at least $25 or so with no guarantee of resolution?!? I'm no tech guy, but I have a Sony Vaio, Windows XP Pro, 512 RAM. As I say, I'm no tech guy, and I'm sorry to say I can't even figure out how to disable my MacAfee. I called that up and looked at that for about 30 minutes.
I'm on fairly high-speed DSL, so my unsuccessful downloads don't last anywhere near as long as an hour and a half, as I read from others. Just a few minutes.
I just bought this software for about $60, hoping to copy 8 mm tapes from camcorder. If I can't even get this thing downloaded, what chance do I have to ever get close to getting my home movies to DVD? I'm wondering if Best Buy will take this back.

Also, I tried to follow the add/remove software instructions, but I don't have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 .. I had 1.1 and 2.0 but no 3.5 .. Was afraid to uninstall anything not specified to uninstall. Thanks.

It is generally better to start a new Topic rather than dredge up a month old inconclusive thread that only partway fits your situation…

I doubt Best Buy will take it back – but you can check.

You must turn off your AV. Only one of my PC’s even has AV installed and it is Norton, so I can’t tell you how for sure.

For Initial Install problems, there is no charge! They take down all the info so they can, but when you reach a tech, you will not be charged unless he states he must charge and you agree to the charge.

How do you want to proceed?

Thanks for your reply. I was able to temporarily disable McAfee and hoped that would solve the problem but instead it was the same situation. The status bar starts goes to about one-third of the way in and just stays there with the same message about installing Microsoft. Then, after a few minutes, it suddenly says the install was successful and to click finish, and when I do I have nothing.
One question: I first successfully installed this on my Dell laptop _ no problems. I even used the application to successfully record some cassettes to CD. That was great! But my laptop does not have DVD recorder, so I switched to my desktop in hopes of transfering home movies from 8 mm. Is this license only good once? Could that be why I can't complete a successful download?

Oh, and I should add, yes I am interested in following up with a call to a tech. Do you have that number?
