I have been using VHS to DVD to convert my old VHS into DVD and all has been working fine. I can see and hear what I'm recording and starting to get pretty good at customizing my projects. Now I'm attempting to capture some LP into .wav files and can't figure how to get the live sound to play at the same time that I'm capturing the sound. Once the recording is done in a .wav file it plays perfect but it is rather anoying I can't get to hear the sound as I'm working with Audio Capture despite showing good activity in the Sound Level bars. I have the same issue with both Digitize LPs and Tapes and/or Capture Audio from Sound Card. It is quite strange because the sound works fine when I'm capturing videos, I can hear what is being recorded so I know my set up is OK. Is there a trick or is that the way the software is design working with Audio? Here is my set-up:

Dell XPS420/Intel 2 Duo/4GB RAM/on board audio card (SygmaTel) running Vista 32 Home Premium SP2
Sound Recording Device is set-up on Line 3 - USB2861 Device and showing sound level activity on the bars
Sound Playback device is set-up on Speakers/Headphone and when tested I can hear sound in both speakers
Roxio Easy VHS to DVD Ver:1.1.125 SP2; 4.50.13a
In LP and Tape Assistant I have the following set-up:
Capture From: Line (3- USB 2861 Device)
Advance Option all set on Default
There is movement (blue bar) in both the L and R chanels but can't figure how to get the sound to come out from my speakers or headphone even with the sound level set to +50%

So where am I missing here?

Try going into your Sound card settings  ( http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=52951 ) . I don't have Vista, so I cant be specific, but from what I have read you will probably have to enable the Stereo Mix selection, give it a try.

Its a Vista/Sound card problem. Roxio has done its job as you have recorded ok.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion.  I have tried every combination possible on Vista 32 SOUND Recording/Playback options.  Unfortunately with my integrated sound card/Vista 32 I do not have any Stereo Mix option.

Is anybody using Vista capable of hearing what they are recording when using Music - Audio --> Capture Audio?  If so what is your set up ?

It should accept and produce Sound from both the sound card as well as with the 2861 device selected.

I am running Vista w/SP2.
