Hi,

My problem is that say I'm copying a 2hr vhs tape to my hard drive (same results regardless of the quality setting I choose), the resulting avi or mpg file might be missing the first 10-50mins. I'll then re-copy the tape, and hey presto, nothing is missing (or it may be missing again, but a different length of time - ie, its pretty random). This is exceptionally frustrating since I don't know if its going to work or not until I've finished the entire tape, 2-4hrs.

My computer is pretty decent - 2.6ghz, 4gm ram, 64bit windows 7 (identical problem on a different computer with 32bit vista, 2gb ram, 2.6ghz).

I tried installing the service pack 2, but it says I don't have roxio installed (I assume that's a windows 7 problem, since its installed in C:\program files(x86)\.... ??). Would this service pack fix my problem? Sadly I no longer have access to the 32bit vista machine to test it (upgraded it to my current pc). Last thing I want to do is downgrade my computer for this, but if its a !!necessary!! evil then so be it. Must be a way to get the service pack installed though?

Other than this, I have to say that the roxio product has been pretty great... but grrrr sad.gif

It was the same problem on windows vista though (there were two reasons I upgraded my pc: 1. to see if roxio would work better, 2. vista is terrrrrrible), so my problem isn't directly windows 7 related.

Its obvious you have an install problem if it doesn't allow you to install the the SP2 patch which fixes several capture problems. It's not a Window 7 problem (although it could be a 64bit problem) since several users are running the program in W7 without problems.

Why don't your try capturing in smaller segments , maybe 30 minutes each. I would never even consider trying to capture a 2 hour tape in one go. First of all creates a huge file and second there is nothing much you can do with such a huge file. You can't burn it to a DVD without editing or splitting among other things.

Hmm, the install went smoothly without error. The version its installed is 11.0, hmm. Right, borrowed my brother's vista laptop for the night to play around with.

I'm lazy, would like to just set it recording for 2/3/4hrs without having to check in every 30mins or so to start it up again. I have around 80-100 tapes I want to copy over heh sad.gif Also, its easier to edit + split on a computer, than it is to manually by hitting pause on the tape player and "stop/start recording" (which also annoyingly often sets the region back to ntsc-M instead of PAL-I) at the same time.

But you may have a point, I might start doing sub 1hr copies - I know I've never had a problem with any of the ~20min copies I've done.

I first tried it on vista when I first got the product - encountered this problem, and upgraded to windows 7 (which I've wanted to do for a long time anyway because vista really is utter ****) - I'm still having the same problem tongue.gif

edit: Just remembered, I have encountered this problem with some ~40min copies I've done (earlier today heh).

Thought I'd add this in a separate post!

The service pack (http://www.roxio.com...download_id=159) didn't find roxio on my brother's vista laptop either? Its installed in "C:\Program Files\Roxio Easy VHS to DVD\", and seemingly works fine, but the service pack can't locate it. Maybe my software already contains sp2? Since it was only bought last week and sp2 came out ages ago... don't know sad.gif

Launch VHS2DVD and click Help/About and it will tell you if you have SP2 installed.

Doing some copies on the laptop at the moment, but itll be a day or so before I have any results I suppose.

edit: Just read through the thread, realised I've been a little impolite. Apologies bout that, its been a very long day! I appreciate any help and the posts so far, thanks smile.gif

I still recommend against trying to capture 2 hour or longer tapes in one go. Trying to edit such long videos is going to be tedious at best and will likely result in lots of frustration especially if you have problems.
