I'm a newbie...

I have a large video file that I want to edit down to a finished product which consists of about 15 or 20 short segments (15-20 seconds each with a transition in between).  I also do not want the native audio to be part of the final production.  What is the best approach to accomplish this task?

First, the easy one.  Add the video to Video Wave (Edit Video Advanced), switch to timeline view, click to show Hidden tracks and select "native" audio.  Click OK.  You will see that native audio track on the timeline.  Select it and use the speaker icon to mute it.  Now follow this video.  It is for an earlier version but the program works the same way.

Or

Watch this video about using scenes.  Do a manual selection.  The issue with this one is that you have to mute the native audio track in each scene.  You can also put in all your transitions and then output the project to an mpg2 video file, bring it back in to Video Wave and then mute the native audio.

You have to decide based on the original length and the desired final length and your scene selection.  Remember that you never change the original video file with the editing except if you really want to over write the file.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
