Upon starting EMC10 I get a message saying that it needs the rcpcore.msi file to continue and gives the location C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\pft3F.tmp\RCP_CORE_36\
I had some trouble with  a program a while back and was told to delete the temp files. I'm assuming that folder was deleted.   I tried telling it to look in the folder where I downloaded emc10 to but that didn't work. The only files in there are  c10_userguide_online.zip, roxiocontentdcv10_sqa.exe and roxioemcsuitev1-_4737ca50r05.exe. I don't have an installation cd as I downloaded it from the Roxio online store. How do I ge this file back?
Thanks
gwen

You will have to extract then contents of file "roxioemcsuite....." to a folder using something like winzip or 7zip. Once that is done, the app will be able to look for the required files to fix the issue.

Thanks for your reply. If I right click on the file there is no option to extract - only to open it, rus as, properties, etc. If I double click on that file then the install wizard comes up. This is an .exe file. So should I just let it run the installation or do I have to uninstall EMC first?
thanks

Yes the files are executable archives and hence you would need to use winzip or 7zip as indicated earlier.

Or a better choice, WinRAR.

No need to uninstall.

Close EMC10.

My recollection is to double click the exe file (it is a self-extracting file). That will extract the files to a temporay folder in the Temp folder. When the Setup Wizard window appears, just choose to cancel/abort the installation. Look in the Temp folder for that temporary folder where the files are extracted to. Search for the subfolder that contains the rcpcore.msi file. Launch EMC10 and point to that folder once it asks for that msi file.

Let us know how it goes.

Edit: Final steps in post #10 below.

It doesn't dump the temp file, if you cancel?  Or does it wait until you boot your computer again, to dump them?  I don't remember how the retched installer works, with respect to the temp files.

No. I think it does that after a successful installation. I remember doing this since I had that problem once.

Whether my recollection is correct or not, it doesn't hurt to try the steps I outllined since installation will commence only if you press the button to go ahead in the setup wizard.

PS: Once the steps I outlined are done, open EMC 10 and point to the appropriate folder once the application asks for the msi file.

Bruce, you might be right about dumping the files if you cancel out of the wizard so I am adding/revising revising some steps. Thanks for pointing that out (about dumping files).

I think the best bet is once the Setup wizard window shows up, minimize that window (do not click the cancel/abort button). Do the search on the Temp folder to find the folder where the extracted files are located. Rename that folder to avoid potential deletion of that folder by the installer. Once the folder has been renamed, go back to the setup wizard and cancel out on the installation. Do the rest of the steps as mentioned in my earlier posts.

Let me outline the steps:

1) Do not uninstall EMC10 and close the EMC 10 application.
2) Double click the exe file. This will extract the files to the Temp folder
3) Once the setup wizard window shows up, do not click any button.
4) Go to the Temp folder and locate the main folder where the EMC 10 files are extracted to
5) Rename that folder to something else. If it doesn't allow you to rename it, copy the entire folder and save the copy somewhere else on your system.
6) Go back to the setup wizard window and press cancel to discontinue installation
7) In the EMC 10 folder (from step 5), search on the rcpcore.msi. Take note of the path
8) Launch EMC 10 and if it asks for the rcpcore.msi file, point it to the path found in step 7.

Let us know how it goes.

It wouldn't let me rename the file while the setup window was open so I copied it to the desktop and cancelled the setup which deleted the folder in the temp file.By the way the folder didn't have the exact name mentioned in the original post but  I went to a similar folder and found the rcpcore file. I then copied the folder back to the temp folder and followed the rest of the steps. After rebooting I launched EMC10 and althoughI didn't give it a thorough check  it seems to work ok.
Thanks for your help!  I forgot to mention that upon shut down for the reboot I got a
Windows application error of some sort but it dissappeared to fast for me to write it down.
