All,

I've been burning projects using 2009 mydvd. Recently the indicator at the bottom showed about 19 minutes left using both 'fit to disc' and HQ for size. The total time is less than two hours and there's an 8.5 DL GB blank disc at the ready.

After rendering, the burning stops with the message 'not enough disc space available'

I even tried to burn the iso file and got negative results. I've been doing this for a couple of years now and completed a couple of projects just the previous day. Please help!

Thanks in advance, Dillon

How about unchecking the Burn to disc option and saving it as Disc image first.

Choose 8.5gb for size and HQ for quality (stay away from "fit to disc"). Burn to an image file. Use that image file to burn onto your 8.5gb blank DVD.

What do you mean by negative results? Any error message?
Is your hard drive formatted as FAT32 or NTFS?

The phrase "both 'fit to disc' and HQ for size" is quite vague. Maybe the OP should confirm that he actually did the following three things I mentioned at the same time: chose 8.5gb for disc size AND chose HQ for quality AND chose to burn to an image file.

Thank you for your replies, I did select 8.5 gb. I don't recall which I settled on but having dropped down both size options showed no difference as the time was well under. As for negative results, I burned it over night and inserted the DVD for a test play in a regular DVD player and a 'bad disc' type of message came up. As I did this just before heading to work, I did not notate any error messages but it may still be there at home (leaving work now).

The first time this happened last night I definately used 'fit to disc' as it was over the space for HQ (showed in red). I opted for both iso and burn to disc. After the failure, I tried to burn from the successful but a 'no disc space' message came up after some time while burning.

It may be worth noting that when I tried to burn from the project itself, it wouldn't even attempt to write after rendering but a write was initated during the iso burn attempt.

How long in time is your project? "Under 2 hours" is not accurate enough since a DL DVD holds under 2 hours. What do you mean by "burn from the successful"? What was successful?

I recommend burning to an iso file only not also to the DVD. That will separate the rendering and the burning process.

I meant to say 'successful iso' the rendering to the iso file was successful. Now that I'm home I can see that there is no error code, just the statement 'There was a problem writing to the disc. You can try again by clicking the retry button. You will need another blank disc ready. The total time is 1:41. This occurred when writing from the iso, btw...

Can you load the iso image file unto a virtual drive and play it there?
I don't think adding the WebCam should have any effect on the burning process.

I use a small utility called ImgBurn to burn all my iso files to a DVD. Never had any problems with it. Google for ithe download site.

That would indicate that there is something wrong with the iso file.

I guess power2go doesn't have that capability I've usually had success with Roxio but I thought I'd try something else with the problems I've been having lately

If you want to try something different, try "Imgburn"

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it when I get home although I would like to know what occurred between my last successful burn and the first unsuccessful one and undo it if at all possible

of topic but curious to know if any gurus or near-gurus can advise of any specific courses of instruction (college, technical institue, etc.) I may undertake to assist in matriculating up in the video editing hobby, I'd really like to get smarter about all this...
