Hi all!

I just purchased Roxio 2010 Pro and am wondering if the Roxio Creator™ 2010 Blu-ray Playback Plug-In is still needed?

I'll be coming back for (lots) more help soon but for now TKX!!

No need to buy it.  It's built into the Pro version.

It's a bit confusing.  I know there is a Blueray Plugin for rendering Bluray, but there is also a separately priced Blueray Plugin for PLAYBACK.  Not sure if both of those are included in Cretaor 2010 Pro or not.  I don't have a Blueray player/burner in my computer so I can't test that.

Sweet! Tkx grandpabruce!

I don't know where to begin asking questions so I'll go with the 1st in mind. There are so many BR DVDs available I've not a clue which I need. I've seen here that Verbatim is a proven winner so I'll stick with that. I've found the following DVDs while surfing:

Blu-ray 2X 25GB BD-R Recordable Disc 1 Pack in Jewel Case
Blu-ray 2X BD-RE Rewritable Disc 1 Pack in Jewel Case
Blu-ray 4X 25GB Single Layer BD-R Disc 1 Pack in Jewel Case
BD-R Double Layer DL 50GB 2X Media 1 Pack in Jewel Case
Verbatim 25GB 4X BD-R Single Disc - Retail
Verbatim 25GB 2X BD-R(Blu-ray) Single Branded Disc - Retail
Verbatim 25GB 2X BD-RE Single Branded Disc - OEM
Verbatim 50GB 2X BD-R DL Single Disc - Retail
Verbatim 25GB 4X BD-R 10 Packs Disc - Retail
Verbatim 50GB 2X BD-R DL 10 Packs Disc - Retail
Verbatim DataLife Plus 25GB 2X BD-R White Inkjet Printable 25 Packs Disc - OEM

My head hurts. I'll go with RE and 25GB during this learning curve, that's probably a good call but the other specs mean nothing to me. Intimidating for a guy that all he wants to do is burn a quality high-def (BR) DVD.
Specs as follows:

Cmptr:
XPS710
XP Pro (sp3)
Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz
2.66 GHZ 2.00gb RAM
(2) NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Video Cards

Burner:
-LG - 8x Internal Blu-ray Disc/Double-Layer DVD?RW/CD-RW Drive
-Multiformat Support: BD-R/RE, BD-ROM, DVD+R/R DL/RW, DVD-R/R DL/RW, DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW media.
-Blu-ray Disc media: Offers both 25GB and 50GB BD-R (write once) and BD-RE (rewritable) discs (not included) that allow you to store up to 4 hours of 1080 high-definition video.

Handycam:
Sony HDR-XR200
AVCHD - Full HD 1080
1920x1080 HD Recording

Looks to me like the BD-RE is the way to go? Please don't assume I know what I'm talking about, I clearly don't. I don't even know what AVCHD is. Any help and hand-holding while needed is surely appreciated!

Tkx again!
Doug

Always nice to have a Rewriteable disc for testing purposes.  Do you have any Commercial Bluray discs?  Try playing that with Cineplayer and see what happens.

Thanks, Gary.  I am confused, too.  I thought that the Blueray Plugin was included.  It isn't.  At least not for playback.  I just tried it with my Blu-Ray burner/player, and CinePlayer recognizes the disc but says that playing of commercial Blu-Ray discs is not possible, in this version of the software.

In short, you do need the Plugin, in additon to the Pro version.

I am sorry about that, 09RKC.  sad.gif I was wrong.

There was another thread with a similar discussion and I had already inserted foot into mouth. LOL  I think the Playback Plugin is strictly for CinePlayer or perhaps Media Player (?).  It appears to add playback of commercial Bluray discs and BD Live support.

>>I am sorry about that, 09RKC.  sad.gif I was wrong.<<
...and I've never been wrong  laugh.gif  Don't concern yourself!

I learned much tonight, between this forum and a few friends. I think I'm on track with the hardware coming in tomorrow. I ordered Verbatim BD-RE 25g (qty 5). I'm feeling good about 2010 Pro (I just love this interface!). The question has come up whether SATA is yet available in the XPS710 or not. I'll deal with that tomorrow when the drive arrives.

He explained to use Blu-Ray to burn for myself, or when I know who I'm burning for has a BR player. Use DVD when I burn productions (mostly church stuff), and many will receive DVDs. Use AVCHD for data storage. I can do that (assuming this memory of mine doesn't fail  rolleyes.gif )

Just so I understand... the plugin allows us to do what? View BR on our cmptrs? It doesn't affect the burn itself regarding viewing on older DVD players, new BR players ect? I think I've got the right link to get it.

Tkx so much!!
Doug

Creator 2010 Pro comes with the Bluray Plug-in that is listed first in that screen shot.  I allows MyDVD to burn Bluray format.

The second Plugin (the way I understand it. LOL) is to allow playback of commercially pressed Bluray with Cineplayer.  I don't think it has anything to do with Videowave or MyDVD.  It also supports BD Live.

That is correct. Creator 2010 Pro includes High-Def/Blu-ray Disc Plug-In enabling Bluray Disc authoring whereas Blu-ray Playback Plug-In adds Bluray playback (protected/unprotected) ability to Cineplayer and is a optional purchase which has so far not been part of any Creator 2010 line of products.

I thought I'd let you all know, the BR drive came in. Everything's great so far. All I can do at this point is DVD; the BR disks should be here in a day or so.

I use Dual Layer DVD discs to burn AVCHD files onto (8.5 gigs)...they work well and they're relatively cheap compared to BD discs. Just wondering 09RKC, did you find a resonable place to buy BD discs?

Not all Players will play AVCHD, not even all BD Players!

Since AVCHD lost the Player War to BD it’s recognition may dwindle even more as time goes on.

I think I'll worry about the future when it arrives, for now I'm all set for playing AVCHD files on DVD discs. BD discs are just too expensive right now.....

Yes!

I don’t have a BD Burner, so my cunning plan is to do the AVCHD DVD’s for now and convert when I figure out the combination to open my wallet sad.gif

At least the quality will still be there, unlike converting my VCD’s from Version 5 into DVD’s  That made things [I]pixely[I] before LCD TV’s were invented laugh.gif
