I am using windows vista and EMC 10. When I capture video on my sony high def 1080i hdr-dc7 , the EMC video capture only recognizes it when the camcorder converts hdv to dv. If the playback format on the camcorder is set to HDV only, then the folowing error message appears: :Unable to preview HDV device, please ensure that a valid tape is in the device and wound to a position that contains material"/
I'm on a hp vista desktop , that is new. When I capture on my old laptop, the video recorder works but the audio and video are not synced. I purchased the new desktop with a good video card etc for video editing, so this is frustrating.
Any help appreciated. thanks

Many Sony users are frustrated with Sony's need to "tweak" the standards for their equipment just enough so that the standards don't apply. HD-V is normally a supported input format. Did the camera come with any capture software?

You may have posted an incorrect model number because I can't find that one on the sonystyle web site. Are you using Sony brand tapes? I seem to remember that someone else had a similar problem that was cured by Sony recommended tapes.

How have you connected the camcorder to your PC? Are you using a firewire connection?

yes, connected with firewire. The EMC capture will work only with DV quality 720x480, when I adjust for HDV 1440x output form the camcorder, roxio gives me that error message.

When I use windows movie maker, the clip dowloads in high definition mpeg form from the camcorder.

Thank you
