I need to buy a analog to digital converter to capture video from a VCR to EMC8.  There are a few on the market that MAY work....PLEXTOR, AVERMEDIA, etc.  In trying to find which ones may be compatible with EMC8, I contacted the support page of ROXIO and found the following link.  BUT...everytime I try to access the link, I get a message that "it is not accessible now...try later.   Does anyone have one a digital converter and have captured video from a VCR to EMC 8?  If so, what model do you have and has it worked well for you?  (PS...how much did the converter cost?

Also, I believe that the converter comes with "capture software"will the converter software software conflict with my "video capture card" ( GE Force 5200)?

Thanks,

Dan

Sorry....I forgot to add my PC Specs.  (It must have gotten deleted when the Roxio format changed.

I know that several have posted that the Plextor works and the Dazzle (not sure which model - 80 I think).  My sister has an Avermedia PCI capture card that works with version 7, but I don't know if it works with version 8. Just make sure that if you choose USB that it is USB2.  USB1 is not fast enough for full DVD quality capture.

Having more than one capture device should not be a problem. They each would have their own driver and should be selectable in the software if both are recognized.

I didn't think USB2 was supported in Roxio 8. I have an adaptec Video Oh and I must use the software that came w/ the program to capture. Once I capture, I can use videowave to edit and mydvd to make a DVD.

Look at the Sony TRV-480 8mm digital camera (about $325 US on sale).  You can record from analog to the digital tape or use it as a "pass through" into the computer via firewire.  The camera takes pretty good video and plays older 8mm analog tapes.

Jeff - yes USB is supported. Just depends on the device.  I have a USB2 webcam and I can record just fine with it in Media Import. It really boils down to the DRIVERS. I don't know why, but seems like analog capture devices have some of the worst written drivers around.

Yes, I forgot about the Web Cam. I just indicated that My video Oh doesn't capture into Roxio 8 in my post.

Yes,the do have lousy driver and they rarely update them as well and that might compound to the problem.
