I have downloaded a show in .avi format (not illegal ... last week of soap opera Guiding Light) and cannot figure out how to burn it to disk. I have tried create DVD, copy video etc etc. All I get is the Phase 1 0% and then nothing after that. I have tried everything I can think of (trouble shooting, this forum, faq's etc).
I KNOW it's probably some simple thing that I am missing (my husband thinks it's the actual software), any and all help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Very very frustrated.

Sounds like a problem with your video card. Have you updated to drivers for your card?
What are your system specs, especially the video card?
Does the video play through Windows Media Player?

Open Videowave and add that video. Does it preview fine until the end?
Also try if Cineplayer is able to open and play that video without any problem.

So, let's start off with the specs of both machines I tested this program on.
The first machine (Zuki's), is a windows vista SP2 machine, with an intel core 2 6400 cpu at 2.13ghz, 2 gigs of ram, an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE PCI-E card (pretty sure it's 512mb of video ram, no less than 256mb for sure), and an onboard sound-card that's a SigmaTEL I believe (it's a dell built pc if anyone is curious). Finally, there are two DVD burners that Zuki has. The first is an internal dvd burner that came with the pc; it supports all dvd formats except dual layer, and it's highest speed is 8x. THe external is an LG super multi drive which does support dual layer dvd's and burns at a max of 16x (both listed speeds are DVD burning speeds). All drivers are currently up to date. Both drives previously worked using windows dvd maker until it began giving that strange SLID (or whatever it is) error that appears to happen after a set period of time to all vista users. Needless to say, we bought roxio 2010 to avoid that muck-about.
Now then, to answer the two questions posted below, yes, the movie plays perfectly fine in all other applications we tested, including windows media player, the preview window of any roxio creator 2010 programs that have one, and the dvd maker program that comes with 2010. (note to the admin/mod of this forum right now, this may be a multi-issue thing and Zuki put it up in the burning section because that was the first issue we noticed with 2010. The list doesn't end there though, trust me).
Now, burning as I just stated, is the first issue. The next is conversion. We attempted to do the whole "copy and convert" thing since many of the videos we had are originally in strange codecs and we needed a codec pack to view them. Examples include, but are not limited to, *.mkv files and *.avi files that would not run without an avi codec pack. So I decided we would try a movie that was like that, convert it, and burn it. Nothing. There's no "preview" window in the burning/converting process, and it starts at 8% and stays there. And by stays there, I mean, I left the program running for 24 full hours, and nothing changed. The program did not "freeze", nor issue any errors, nor did any noticeable change occur. There is a distinct lack of any error message or "not responding" message as well. However, we can convert to iPod format and I'm going to attempt to convert to other formats. Frankly, I don't care about the other abilities of this program except web-video capture and burning, but that'll come once I know I can convert to dvd format and burn the movies as normal. We have tried different disc type (verbatim, memorex, etc) as well as different disc formats. Nothing works. It seems to be purely software based. If it helps, we purchased the "bilingual" copy of roxio creator 2010 instore, rather than in a download, and the installation was clean without a hitch. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the program three different times, taking care to wipe registry entries and left-behind program files and folders. Nothing works.
Now then, to my pc. It's running XP on SP3, 2 gigs of ram, an internal LG super multi burner, an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 512 mbs of ram (agp8x, I know, sad), a creative x-fi fatality platinum championship pci card, an intel p4 with hyperthreading technology at 3.0 ghz, and all drivers are currently up to date minus the geforce which is one driver behind the current (left it out of date to test the driver theory). I suffer exactly the same issues as Zuki, down to the letter.
So, if you'll pardon my frustration with this program, what the heck do we do? I shelled out $65 canadian after taxes to a store that will not issue refunds or returns or any help what so ever if a product is opened. I have found no work-arounds to this issue or even mention of this issue in my websearches. And there's no patches out there for 2010 yet. If tech support wasn't a premium service, I'd be happy to call them, but frankly, I'm not paying nearly (or over) $2/min canadian for an issue that should not even be occuring if the program was properly made.
I am more than confident in saying that the issue is not on our systems. They are two seperate and distinct machines, both of which I submitted to driver updates and error checking, virus scanning, and registry repairing before AND after each clean install (and uninstall) of this program. I hope you can all appreciate that the time that took alone is a large part of my frustration. Another part of the frustration is the lack of any error message from this program. If I was given some kind of error, I could at least present that here or look up the information on it and act accordingly. But it's literally like a big "you're boned!" from this thing. The only reason we picked the program was so we could convert, and then burn, ensuring all our dvd's worked properly. As it stands, while it's nice that I can convert things for my iPod, I could've gotten a free program that does that.
So, please, I don't mean to sound rude when I say this, but I assure you that I have run the basic and most intermediate tests, I have done the usual "uninstall and reinstall, check your drivers, etc etc" stuff. I'd like to skip past those suggestions/solutions, because this is a far more perplexing solution and requires equally effective help. Sorry if that sounds rude, but as anyone who's knowledgeable about software can agree, we just don't like being treated like new people to the game.
Thank you all on behalf of myself and Zuki for any help you can give.

If you don’t lay your ego aside and answer the questions, I do not see how you expect to be helped???
I’m not getting on your case but step by step details would have been useful in place of your long winded editorial

Jim, I'm sorry. I didn't realize providing important technical details to help aid in the solution of a problem as well as answering the simple questions up front ("Now then, to answer the two questions posted below, yes, the movie plays perfectly fine in all other applications we tested, including windows media player, the preview window of any roxio creator 2010 programs that have one, and the dvd maker program that comes with 2010. I'll need to remember that next time I go into my own work and a customer begins to provide me with important information key to my ability to perform my role as a technical support representative.
Are we done patronizing our customers yet? I asked for a solution, not an arguement. If you are unable to assist me in finding one, please provide me with the necessary mailing address where I can return this product for a full refund as well as the proper address where I can submit a letter of complaint both in regards to the product as well as your service.

Have you tried setting to 'software' render mode? I only skimmed through the thread so sorry if you have already. Try software render on the Vista machine. OPen MyDVD, Tools/Options. Click on the 'dot' beside software and click OK.
On the WinXP machine, make sure you have the latest updates to DirectX 9. Get it here dated 9/16/09 You should be able to use the Geforce 7600 in hardware render mode. That is what I had in my XP Media Center and had no issues.

Just an FYI, this is a user forum, not Roxio tech support, so we're just fellow users trying to help.
If you want to contact them, you can use this support page or their general contact page.
From what I can tell, trying to read thru the lengthy posts, is that Videowave and/or MyDVD will not render the video file you have added to your project (stops at 0% progress). That usually does indicate the app is having an issue with your video card.
My suggestion would be to uninstall the current drivers, reboot the pc so it uses the default windows video drivers, then install the latest Nvidia drivers after downloading them from Nvidia's site.

Thank you, nice to know that Roxio doesn't have such ignorant staff then, that's a load off my mind. As for the contact page, thanks for putting that up because it wasn't loading for me off roxio's page, only when I click your link.
Now then, as for the rendering/etc. I can render the same movies to an iPod format. I can play all the movies without issue in any player. It's when I attempt to burn and/or convert to dvd format that the window loads (without the preview window you'd normally get) and goes automatically to 8% complete, then stays there, forever.
I've tried all the driver muckabouts, I've tried two different pc's (with two different operatins systems And different video cards), and I've tried the clean install and uninstall. I think I'll have to try calling or doing the live chat with a representative, because this is just too much hassle for what I paid for this bloody thing.

At any rate it has finally nudged you into providing some useful info that we can work with…
Notice there have already been 2 useful responses since you have.
Gary and Larry are quite good at this too, so I won’t bother with this any more.
