I read in another post in this forum that the label creator utility in Creator 2009 will not recognize label files created in earlier versions of Roxio software. Can that be true? If so, I find that mind-boggling.
Before I rant too much, here's the issue: When I try to open .jwl label files created in earlier versions of Roxio (specifically including Version 8) I get this message: "Label Creator was not able to open the selected file. The file may be corrupted."
This happens with ALL my .jwl files (and I have over 100), regardless of when or with which version of Roxio they were created, except Creator 2009. I have not tried to create any labels from scratch in 2009.
I bought Creator 2009 retail, new-in-the-box. I'm running XP-Media Center Edition.
I know, I know, buying yet another Roxio product is my own fault; I should know better. Hell, I DO know better, it's just that all my 100+ labels are created in Roxio and I needed (I thought) a later version to work well with XP, so I gave in and flushed more money down the toilet on another Roxio product. (I should have my head examined.) The ONLY reason was, I wanted to open, edit, and of course, print the labels and they're .jwl files, so. . .
MY QUESTION: Is there any work-around for this? If not, and it's it true that Creator 2009 won't open older .jwl files, any suggestions? I've got hundreds of hours, literally, invested in these files.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don’t think it is the brightest move on Roxio’s part, but you are correct about being incompatible…

You should be able to do a Custom Install of EMC 8 and install just enough to get that’s version of the Label Maker.

2009 is out of production, succeeded by 2010.

To be Blunt, it might be better to go with a 3rd party label maker that is updateable.

Two options - first scan any discs you have labelled and save them as jpg or whatever. The other option is to install the old label creator (it should work alongside the later one)
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Thanks, Jim. I still have my retail version of EMC -8 and I'll try and install only the Label Creator utility.
I visit this site relatively rarely, so I haven't come across any other posts on this subject, but in case there have been some, does anybody know why in hell Roxio would do such a stupid thing? How in the world could any right-thinking company put out a version of the same software that was incompatible with their earlier versions? (Uh, I mean any company other than Microsoft, of course.) The only reason I bought 2009 was because EMC-8 didn't work well with XP, and I needed access to my label files.
OK, I've vented. Now for the next question: Is there any trick to getting EMC-8 to install alongside Creator 2009, which, unfortunately, I still need to use until I can buy Nero, or some such? Any tips from the community on how to get that utility loaded will be appreciated.
Thanks again,
