I acquired this card for the main purpose of streaming my video game consoles through justin.tv. I was told to use Adobe Flash Media Encoder, and when I did, I got errors about how the device may have been inserted incorrectly or that the audio was not set at the right rate.

Following this, I updated the driver for it to the latest version, and I still got the same errors. However, in Roxio Creator '09, both video and audio work fine in the "capture video" portion. That would be fine if I wanted to simply record, but my main goal is streaming. Getting fed up, I just decided to use the justin.tv on-site broadcaster, but when I attempt to use that, it just crashes my browser window.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this card just incapable of streaming to sites such as justin.tv?

I hope someone can help or explain it to me so that I can be a little less confused. smile.gif

Trying to sort out what you are even referring too

I think by “card” you actually mean the Roxio Video Capture USB device. It is not a card.

Did you buy the Roxio Video Capture USB device as a separate item or was it part of a bundle like the Creator 2009 Special Edition or the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD?

And who told you to use Adobe Flash instead of Capture software?

Supply those details and we should be able to get you on your way wink.gif

Ah, sorry.

Well, the device came bundled with the Roxio Creator '09 Special Edition Suite.

A friend of mine who actually does stream to jtv successfully was reccomending the Adobe Flash instead of Capture software, but he was probably under the impression that I would be using the same device as him.

Edit: Okay, so I tinkered around with Adobe and justin.tv a little more, and actually got Adobe to broadcast an audioless stream to my channel, which is definitely a HUGE improvement from yesterday. Here is the main problem I'm struggling with.

I apologize in advance for the humongous picture size, but I had to crop it, and the message would have been un-readable in the inital cropping size.

If anyone knows a solution to this, I would be eternally grateful!

P.S. In case you were wondering how I got it to stream even that much, I told the Adobe FME to use my PC's audio input instead of the USB Device's, and it broadcast pretty well (asides from expected lag and the obvious lack of the console audio).

Thanks for the updated info!

The device is only designed to work with the Roxio Capture program.

Try it with that to see where you really stand.

It if happens to work with some other software, consider it an unintended surprise laugh.gif

For example it will work with Window Movie Maker in XP, but MS fixed WMM in Vista so it won’t…

So pretty much I can't even use this to stream live? I've used this with Creator '09, but I've never seen any mention of streaming within that program or any mention from JTV to be compatible with that program.

Heh, I guess I just need to pick up a different device for what I want to do, then.

Still, thanks for your help. smile.gif

You have to run the testing I suggested before you jump to the conclusion phase biggrin.gif

What is a “Justin.TV”??? I didn’t get any hits that made sense to me huh.gif

I have only used the Web Capture a couple of times, so I am still learning wink.gif

Justin.tv is a website to broadcast live via a webcam or in the situation I am attempting to set up, a capture device.

The site is literally http://www.justin.tv

Pretty much, another friend of mine reccomended I use this device for this situation since I needed one and he had already had it. At the time, I didn't know it was designed specifically to capture VHS tapes for digital conversion. If I had wanted to do that, then I would be having no problems at all with the device and everything would be running smoothly.

But I've looked about and am in the process of getting another device that should better suit my needs. Still, the advice was very helpful, and if I do ever need to convert VHS to digital, I now know more about this device. smile.gif

Well yes that clears it up, I think…

It would appear that the device is not compatible with your application.

Stop back later and let us know what you did use and how well it worked out???

After quite awhile I am back.

So, I followed up on the device reccomended to me and got a Diamond VC500 One-Touch Capture Device. With the splitters I had before, set-up was a breeze, and so was software installation. Using the Device software with the Adobe FME from before, I was able to get a very nice, good quality stream going from my console to my JTV channel. I'm still trying to figure out how to be able to incorporate my PC mic into the streams, but besides from that, my streams run WONDERFULLY with this device.

So yeah, while the Roxio Capture USB device didn't cut it for what I needed, I could definitely see it as being good for its original intent, VHS to digital.

Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out, but for this purpose, I would reccomend the VC500 just because it's really good at what I wanted it to do.
