I have installed VHS to DVD from disc correctly and downloaded the update on to my Imac. On first booting up I get five seconds of picture on the screen and then blank with the message 'no signal' so I am unable to see what I am recording.
Strangely enough it is recording but in black and white which I can retrieve but this is obviously no good. My local computer 'expert' suggests that I should use the supplied software to select PAL but there is no mention of this on the software. I am using a short length of extension S-video cable but am told this should not affect the issue. My problems are therefore two fold.
The transfer is in black and white and no picture while downloading. If I can't get help with this back it goes.
Can anyone kindly help?

It's apparent the device is not seeing the signal correctly. I don't know the cause. If you have eliminated the possibility of a poor connection to the VHS player then I'm at a loss. You aren't trying to copy a commercial VHS movie, right? I don't know how the EV2D4M handles Macrovision encoding. If these are your own tapes then that isn't an issue.
I don't know if Roxio made a NTSC version for sale in countries with NTSC and a separate PAL version for sale in countries with PAL. There is no indication on the unit or in the application regarding format. However, mine knows to record my NTSC video to NTSC specs. If I attempted to capture a PAL source I might get the problems you describe (actually that makes sense) or maybe the unit would know to record my PAL video to PAL specs. It certainly won't transcode one to the other.
If the device is restricted to either PAL or to NTSC it is very unlikely that the wrong version was sold to you.

I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks very much for your advice and comments. All helpful, however I have spent so much time trying to make this work I have decided to send it back. Thanks again, Chris

FYI: The device is an analogue to digital converter. It turns analogue input into 1’s and 0’s and pushes them down a wire.
There is no PAL or NTSB involved, that is done by the Capture Software which converts the input into mpeg, in the MAC version. (AVI is an option in the PC version)
You are most likely using a SCART adapter with your VCR and while many have RCA and/or S-Video connections, not all of them are actually wired!!!
One UK user suggested this one, SCART but you can go to any electronics shop and tell them what you are doing and they will grab the right one for you.

Although I have packaged up my Roxio device for return I have sent for the scart cable you suggest and will try that first. Many thanks indeed for replying. Chris

Got my fingers crossed!
I just got Easy VHS to DVD for Mac and I have the same problem. I recorded a color movie just fine, but as soon as I started recording a black and white movie on the same tape, I got the "no signal" screen.
Does Roxio have a patch?
10-19-09 ps: I did a full capture with the "no signal" on the monitor. The movie captured just fine. The problem seems to be with the monitor during the capturing session. A little troublesome but it gets the job done.

Hurrah ! and thank you Digital Guru.
I have purchased the cable you suggested 'HAMA three phone to SCART switchable cable' and the product now works with image signal and in colour. It is only composite RCA and not S-Video so am unable to compare the two for quality but it now works and I can start work on my videos.
Thanks again, Chris
