04/09/00 is 'Track Following Error' and is reported to the software from your drive
You could try the PX Engine update and see if that helps

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Hello Eager2Learn,

A Track following error is usually generated by your drive when the laser that's reading the disc, can't follow the track.

It often shows when the drive is getting old and its lubrication is gummy, and rubber parts inside are getting old and brittle. A strip-down, clean, lubricate and rebuild will often fix it, but the cost of a technician's time is usually more than buying a new drive.

If you recently changed your source of blank discs and this problem happened then, it could be the new discs you're using are slightly out of balance and it might be worth going back to your previous type. However if your blanks haven't changed, and especially if you're using CDs rather than DVDs then your burner might be reaching the end of the line and need replacement.

If you have to replace the drive, please be aware that really old software might not recognize your new drive. I can't advise you there since you haven't said what your other software is, or your drive model.

We never did get enough information from you to learn what the cause of the problem was, but I'm glad it's fixed.
