Hi -- I recently built a new computer, and transferred all my old drives & files from the old one. I just installed a new copy of EMC 8 last night, but couldn't figure out which files to look for (by extension, for example.) Along the same lines, I have a DVD created with Sonic/MyDVD, built out of MPEG files. Can this be imported whole? any guidance along these lines will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- David

You should be able to open disc copier and then choose to burn it to the hard drive. That will give you the whole project back on your hard drive as a mpg2 video.

Thanks, Patty, that's very helpful. Do you also know if there's any way recover the actual, functional DVD -- i.e., with a real menu and chapters? -- David

Are you wanting to just make copies of the DVD that you have? I am not sure what you are actually asking. You should be able to copy the DVD with disc copier if that is all you want is just a copy, but if you want something to edit you need to copy it to your hard drive and then you would not have the menu. To answer how to recognize various Roxio files, videowave is .dmsm and MyDvd is .dmsd. Of course you can make project files and choose to have the Roxio files sent there.

Patty, MyDVD Studio 6.x would allow users to edit an OpenDVD disc which would re-import even the menus and chapters and I think dzigas77 was referring to that. However, I don't believe MyDVD 8 has such features.

Ivan -- thanks, I've made progress, but no success yet. A Roxio tech directed me to the Roxio Import Center. My DVD shows up in the "select device" pull down menu, but when I select it, nothing happens. There's no icon representing the DVD or other button to press to import. This is weird because the dVd in question was created by me in an earlier version of My DVD, and has the Video_TS file that the Help page references. Any thoughts? Thanks. -- David

you can use Media Import to load that disc, however that's not gonna give you the menu.
