I was looking at some old CD and floppy disks, and now when I start up my PC, which uses Windows XP Home Edition 2002 service pack 2, I always get the message:

“Devices or applications disabled. ‘DirectDC’ will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. Click here for more details.”

When I click on “here” it takes me to the Roxio website. When I search Roxio’s Support for “Disable DirectCD” the only thing that comes up about disabling DirectCD is the following link, which deals with Win95 but not XP and therefore does not help:

http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en

Also, DirectCD does not show up in the “Add/Remove Programs” feature of Windows.

So how do I disable DirectCD in Windows XP? Please advise.

Thank you for your help.

type msconfig in start, run and disable it from there
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
