cool.gif I read the post about the registry cleaner and tried the fix.  I have Windows Vista and rec'd msg that the CD Key was not correct.  My EMC 10 version is an OEM from Dell 9.0DE.  Besides going into the registry, I am not that experienced, will the fix be to upgrade and if so, help with that please, a novice user for family use.  When I registered my OEM version I rec'd a key # and  and I also tried the OEM (pre-insalled) CD Key.     If I re-install from the OEM CD will that effect the registration.  I am preplexed,  I don't mind the purchase of upgrade, it is the clean install that causes me grief, been there with another computer in the past.
Thanks for your help.

Shoes,

In July in THIS TOPIC you appeared to successfully upgrade from an OEM version of EMC 9 to a full version of EMC 10. Was that not so?

If that was so, what does it mean when you say "My EMC 10 version is an OEM from Dell 9.0DE" and "I read the post about the registry cleaner and tried the fix." ??

What version are you running, and why did you try "the fix", and what "fix" did you try ?? I believe you're confused - you're confusing me.

In July -08 I did do upgrade to EMC 10.  My Dell came with the 9.0DE and thus the upgrade to the 10.  I have only upgraded once 7-08.    To add more confusion, on my acct with Roxio, I have registered the EMC9.0DE, EMC9, EMC10.   I have an update order # 7-08 and my ard copy in had is EMC 9 Suite.

I do not use this program that often, but I like it when EMC and me are on the same page.  Note sure how I got here, but please believe me I am not one to change, and not quick to add new programs etc.

I tried the fix because that was a possible fix for EMC10.    Sorry your confused but I am setting here looking at this.

Could I just reinstall the EMC9 Suite?

nm, I must have a hard copy of EMC10.  Currently on the hunt for it.  2 options for me as I c/it.  1) find and re-install or buy a new one.  Do I understand that the I will not have to do the clean install?  Thanks for your help, must be the "part timers setting in on the "b-boomer".

Shoes,

I'm taking a HUGE guess here, and feel like I'm using Jim's Crystal Ball. Tell me if I'm guessing right.

[1] You have been using EMC 10, and suddenly it stopped working.
[2] You tried the version 10 Repairer file from Roxio, but because you were using Vista that didn't accept your key.
[3] You think you have an installer copy of EMC 10 on disc, but haven't found it yet.
[4] You are using some sort of Registry cleaner which you think might have caused this problem.

Am I right with those four guesses, please?

If I am, you are going to need that EMC 10 installer disc, so please find it if you can.

Regards,
Brendon

U r good Mr. Jim.
Right on 1,2 & 3, and probably 4.  I use Norton from Symantec.  But I had that from the get go.  I read a post that causes me to wonder-guess if that could have been the cause.
I am a nerd about keeping my programs and have note books and files for such.  Can't figure out why the EMC is mia.
Also, good there have been a problem with the fact that I had not upgraded to the Vista Service P2?
Reason for the question, in compatibilty the default  mode was "use with Vista Service P2. (?)

EMC 10 installer disc is NOwhere to be found.  I have 7 & 9.
Only option to purchase another.
?1 your recommendation EMC 10 or Creator 2010.
This will be it for me the hassle is not worth it.   The program was working just fine and now will not execute.  It is there, saved programs, pics, music I can see but useless at this point, dead in the water I am.
I am simple minded and so in case the problem is user , I will bit one more time.
?2 will i need to do the Clean install and if so how will that effect the copied programs, pics, and music that i copied and saved in another folder since they were created with EMC 10.
I didn't copy the files when I upgraded  EMC 9 to EMC 10, so I learned something there.
Your reponse has been appreciated and helped to get on with it and purchase the upgrade

Hello Shoes,

Please read THIS POST. It explains what happens that disables your EMC 10, and gives three ways of recovering from that misfortune.

[1] You can't reinstall without your EMC 10 installer disc.
[2] You can't import a copy of the broken registry key because you don't have a saved copy of it.
[3] Roxio's Repairer 10 from here might work for you, but you need your EMC 10 install CD-Key to run the Repairer and often it doesn't work in Vista for some unknown reason. Do you still have that CD-Key?

Now the two questions you asked:
-I'd suggest that EMC 10 is a pretty good suite, and it would be much better to repair it than to have to buy Creator 2010. I'm here to help you, not to sell you things. smile.gif
-If we can't "repair" it, I would suggest a simple re-install. A Clean Install would only be needed if the programs won't simply reinstall. A Clean Install shouldn't affect your copied projects, pictures, and music just as long as they're saved in a folder that's not attached to any folders the Clean Install wants you to delete. Just keep them in their own folder somewhere safe.

Regards,
Brendon

I did read that post and tried the EMC repairer, I have the CD key and it didn't work, I have Vista.  I have the shipping evelope, the purchase order, it as though the EMC 10 disc self destructed.  Unbelieveable.
I thought the EMC 10 was the best way to go, thanks for you suggestion.
I have copied and stored the files, hopefully in a safe place.
Thanks for your response and I will be back for assistance when get new EMC10.

Some success.  As a last resort, did the update for EMC10.  And now I have EMC10 back up and running with no apparent loss of files.  Whoa who!.
New ?  Can I now copy or create a disc for EMC10?

yep - if it's the downlad, open that with winrar or winzip and extract to a temp folder - burn the contents of that and you have a backup disc
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

If you have lost the original installation disc, you are up the proverbial creek. There's no way to back up something you don't have

Hi Shoes,

No worries, or as they said in Australia when I was there last week "Too Easy Mate".

Since you successfully applied the EMC 10 update, you're now running EMC 10.1, which is
Version: 10.1.226
Build: 112B26A, R03

Now, Soxio fixed that faulty registry key in 10.1 so you will no longer have the problem with your Norton program.
There is no need to back anything up now, because they shifted their registration info in 10.1 from a faulty key to a place of safety.

You're all fixed, but really should keep an eye peeled for that EMC 10 disc in case you ever need to reinstall it to another hard drive.  Oh, and make sure you burn a copy of that big 10.1 download and put it in a safe place.

Cheers,
Brendon

tx mate, but not so fast - just how do I burn a copy of the 10.1 download, since I have now opened it.
Surely you have given me more credit than i deserve, I am a rookie, but I am trainable and learning more with each click of the mouse.
I asure you that I remain on the hunt for the mia EMC10, and not to hopeful at this point.
I am sure that I will have to purchase a new one but hopefully not until I am ready to advance onward.
At the present I am pleased to be able to execute what I do have.  tx for all your help, but please reply about how to burn a copy of the 10.1 download.  shoes

Open it with winzip or winrar (the download) and extract to a temporary folder. Burn the contents of that to a disc and there you go - one backup disc

For the life of me mate, I can't seem to comprehend how to burn a copy of the 10.1download.  It must be so simply.
If the file had not yet been unzipped, but I have opened and used it.  Maybe I really don't it anyway unless the mia EMC10 should found.
That being said, I am once again a very happy user of Roxio EMC10, until next crisis.
tx for the help, shoes.
