In VideoWave and clicking on the StoryLine view, you get small images of the photos and videos in the Production. Does anyone know under what circumstances those images are displayed in very bad quality, fuzzy to the extent of not really being discernable. It's not only the images that I've added, but also the Transitions that are fuzzy!

Having asked that, if there is a reason then is there an easy solution to get them back to the normal image quality.

I have checked by creating a small Prodcution that when new images are added they are viewable in the normal quality.

If there is no easy way to fix this then I guess I'll have to recreate all my prouctions as the current ones burn to DVD OK buit won't play on DVD player.

The preview has nothing to do with how the finshed DVD will look.

This worked for an earlier version so it should work for this one.  Look in the folder where you are saving the project.  There should be two fles with the same name.  One should have a DAT extension.  Delete that and it will be rebuilt with the fresh images when you open the project again.  You may have to set your OS file preferences to "not hide known file types".

Now tell us about the issue of not being able to play the DVDs on your DVD player.  Do the burned DVDs play OK on your computer?  I hope you are not using cheap store brands or Memorex brand CD.  There quality is,  to put it kindly, crap !
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home

Thanks for that tip, Digital Guru.  I had no idea that you could delete a DAT file and it would rebuild itself.  My storyline images look great again.
Regarding using quality DVDs, I have been using SONY AccuCORE DVD-R discs.  Are they in the Memorex category of NOT good quality and if so, could you recommend a few good brands to use?
Thanks again.

Firstly thanks for tip, one I'll keep in my head for future reference, but I found that moving the MDSM file to another folder provoked Roxio to ask where the photos were, and browsing for them had the same effect as deleting the DAT file I guess as all the small images were recreated.

Secondly, you ask about the DVD I use, Taiyo Yuden Full Face Printable DVD's or sometimes Verbatim Printable, and only use x8 DVD's as experience shows any faster tend to have lots of errors on my DVD writer.

I tend to agree with your comment that the small images have nothing to do with it burning to DVD but while the production is in this state some of the pictures in the slideshow (video) show up as blank screens so while the DVD will probably burn (I didn't try it) the resulting DVD won't be ideal.

I'll report back if this has solved my problem which I'm sure it will.

Thanks again.

Those small images stored in the DAT file are just the thumbnails that are shown in the storyline panel. That way they do not have to be created each time the project is started. If you delete the DAT file then the next time those thumbnails are recreated.

Blank screens in the slideshow have nothing to do with those images in the thumbnails.

The dmsm file stores the locations of all the resources (video clips, photos, audio, etc) that are used in the project. Some of the path are relative to the current location of the dmsm file and of course if you move the dmsm file those locations no longer work. In the same way, moving the locations of your resource file will also create a missing error.

Good news - Bad news.

I have now resolved the problem with the image quality in Storyline (thanks for the previous advice). However, the bad news is that every so often one of the images in the Video shows as a blank screen (black).

Any further ideas?

OK - more progress! Good news is that the occasional blank "black" image in the resulting video has been resolved. For some reason the Production Setting (under Production Options) was set to use Software Rendering - I have no idea why but can only suspect it was something I tried and forgot! Why I would do that I have no idea!

Anyway, setting it back to Hardware rendering has now resolved the problem of the blank images.

I'll provide further update on the DVD and playing it back on a DVD player.

Thanks.

OK now I'm in a position to create reasonable DVD's from all holiday poictures and burn them onto DVD for playing on TV. The final problem was caused by the Production Options being set to NSTC - not something that we use here in the UK, although one of my DVD players is capapble of playing them another older player was incapable. This seems to be the final problem resolved - until the next one.

Thanks for all the ideas.
